I have had tinnitus for several years, a persistent high pitched
whistling "sound" which I mostly ignore; but recently I have noticed a
thumping-like sound in one ear. It's occasional, has no consistent
pattern, and the best I can describe it: it's like a soft bubble
popping. There seems to be no connection with any throat/Eustachian
tube problem that I can detect.
Has anyone experienced this? Is it a form of tinnitus?

Probably brain cancer. Get it checked

What a stupid answer...... Are any of you really suffering from tinnitus?
Think not, you find it very amusing to go back and forth with stupid
remarks and backstabbing, pathetic.....

concerned.

Sounds like you have several types of tinnitus (all sounds that a person can
hear in their ears or head, by the way, and doesn't originate from the outside
world, can be called tinnitus).......one is a the sound of the blood moving
through your veins (swooshing) and the other could be the blood moving through
the arteries (thump thump...this is time with the heart) or it could be a tic
reflex of tiny middle ear muscles like twitch twitch......this doesn't go with
the heartbeat and often stops when we turn our heads, move away from whatever
it is that is stimulating this response (rushing water or whatever) and comes
and goes........
Good idea to have an audiologist check out your system....and an otologist, not
an ENT.

Is it in time with your heartbeat? Then it would be called Pulsatile
Tinnitus.

It sound like it could be. I have heard about thumping but I personally have
only experienced the high pitched whistling.
I would see a doctor about it and rule out any other possibilities.
Good luck

The wife and I hear thumping in our bedroom just about every-other night. I
hate that damn headboard.
