1 Campral is expensive.
2 Have not read the links, can't comment on them, but always ask
yourself: Does the benefit outweigh the risk? With a new drug, the
risks are always higher.
3 Taking Campral for tinnitus is like taking Viagra for primary
pulmonary hypertension. Unless I am wrong, Campral is for, well,
drunks. Not sure I want to be known as a person taking a medicine used
for patients with substance abuse problems.
4 Campral is expensive.

pretty much any drug is

That's one of the thoughts I had as well. I can just imagine
my doc asking "so tell me, why do you think you need that..?" It
wouldn't be the first time an incorrect entry was made in my medical
file (which despite several requests/protests never got corrected, but
that's another story).
I gotta admit though, the discussions I read about it were quite
intriguing... I guess until it hits the front page I'll merrily keep
on beeping :)

It is always important to ask yourself if you want to be the first kid on
the block to "try it".
Cures for whatever come and go. At the ENT meeting two years ago I recall 3
new fabulous procedures that are no longer in use. Today they showed two new
devices that I personally predict won't be around two years from now.
After the new treatment / procedure / whatever has been used a while, it it
is still working well, then might be time to step in. But first kid on the
block??? Be careful.
Wait for the fourth article
First article: Results of using X to cure Y
Second Article: High incidence of cure using X to treat Y
Third Article: Side effects and complications in the use of drug X
Fourth Article: A plea for a permanent ban on use of drug X
You can always be in the first article but ...

Murray, I agree but I would add a corollary to this. There are some
meds/agents out there with proven safety track records that are
also effective for secondary or off label usages. Thus, if there's
a medication that has been used safely for years/decades for one
condition (say hypertension) and now has been noted this same agent
also has a positive secondary affect on tinnitus I would be less
wary versus a brand new type of medication.
In this case, if Campral has been around and been proven safe,
there's less risk than in trying something totally new.
