Do I need to see a doctor?

Been having a high-pitched ringing in both ears for the past 3
weeks.  It started gradually; in fact, at first I thought it was
the sound of my hard drives spinning or the monitor.  After a week
I realized it was in my head.  The ringing has been intermittent,
vanishing a few times completely for an entire day only to resume the
following day full strength.  During the period of this
condition's onset, my eyelid experienced some slight swelling and
tenderness near the tear duct, but that lasted only a couple days
before returning to normal.  I also feel a slight sense of "fullness"
in the lymph nodes in my neck.

When all is said and done, I assumed I've just been suffering the
symptoms of a mild infection that would clear up in due time.  But
now that it's going on three weeks, I'm beginning to wonder.  I'm
in fine health otherwise, don't smoke, exercise regularly, eat
right, take no medications.  So...do I need to see a doctor?

You should see your internist, just to be safe.

Well, posting to this group must have curative powers, because in
the days since my inquiry, the ringing has disappeared.  Three
days running without any sound, so I'm saying it's run its course.

This temporary bout of tinnitus has granted me a real sense of
empathy for those who suffer this torture every living day.
Honestly, when the realization that the ringing might never leave
me, I was prepared to just throw in the towel rather than get
sucked into a bottomless vortex of mystified physicians and
quack remedies.  Get a life insurance policy, say my farewells,
and go off to a quiet mountain villa with an abbreviated lifetime
supply of heroin to live out my final days in calm bliss.

My blessings to those who endure this curse.

That you are not smoking or eating right does not mean you are healthy.
This is the misconception of the Hollywood movies.  You should see a
doctor if you are still not feeling right.

Regarding your tinnitus, check with a pharmacist and take a tablet of
gingko biloba each morning.  If the problem does not lessen after a
couple of week, go and find an ENT doctor.
