Hi all,

I have T + hearing loss in my right ear and my audiologist has
recommended that I do TRT. I generally understand the nature of brain
plasticity and habituation but I would be a stronger believer in TRT if
it had some more solid scientific backing. All that I've read has been
very high-level anecdotal evidence. Have there been clinical trials
done to detect physical brain/body changes due to TRT?

Also, I have been instructed to use a tinnitus device on each ear as
part of TRT. Does anyone have thoughts on the following two
manufacturers?

(Click "TINNITUS" on the left menu and then on the next page click
"Tinnitus Devices".)

Thank you for your help and support.

If you had to understand each treatment fully before using it, you
might waste a lot of your time.  Also, each treatment differs in impact
amongst different individuals.  Thus the important thing is whether or
not it works for *you* regardless of the 'scientific' nature of the
practice.  For example, it was acupuncture that took care of my t.  But
in the beginning i was waiting for 'evidence' to show up in this group
before i used it.  It delayed my recovery.

Hi William,

IMO the 'tinnitus combination' device shown at United Hearing  looks the
ideal one, if you can afford it!   What swings it for me is that it provides
graphic equalisation on both the noise feature and the hearing
amplification.

My own experience shows that high-frequency-filtered background noise,
combined with hearing amplification peaked on the (high frequency) tinnitus
band would be a great solution.  Such a device would both 'discharge' my T
and 'replace' it with sound from the outside world.

As I understand it, TRT has quite a good reputation too. Combined with the
above device, your treatment could well be effective.

I speak purely as a layman with tinnitus. I have no medical qualifications.
