I've had T for 13 years, and gradually self-habituated over that time.
However, in the last two months or so, my T has gotten MUCH worse, and I'm
not taking it well. Even though I should know better, I'm experiencing
really bad anxiety and sleeplessness.
I live in the VA suburbs of Washington, DC, so I have two options for
tinnitus clinics -- the one at the U of MD in Baltimore (which is where TRT
was developed), or the one at the U of Va in Charlottesville.
Does anyone have any thoughts, experience, or suggestions about either one?
UMd seems to offer a more intensive exam (7-8 hours), compared to 3-4 hours
at UVa, but UMd is much more expensive.
On the other hand, UVa seems to offer a more interdisciplinary approach, and
they specifically mentioned treating sleep issues, while a person at UMd I
spoke to told me they had some sleep tricks they would impart during their
counseling, sleep issues didn't seem like a priority for them.
Neither seems to offer much in the way of psychological help, either
pharmacological or CBT type treatment.
I'm feeling so bad now that I probably will go to whichever place has the
earliest available appointment (which is still one or two months out).
Nevertheless, it would be very helpful to gather whatever information I can.
Thanks.

Gary, I'm not knowledgeable about the clinic in Charlottesville,
but I suspect that either clinic you mention may be able to help
you. CBT for tinnitus is a good idea, but it is extremely hard to
find. I don't think either clinic offers it.
I hope you are better soon.
