Carman:

I've also spoken to Kevin Hogan and tried hypnotherapy,
accupuncture and herbal medecine with no success
at all.

Perhaps the approach that helps is to reduce the anxiety reinforcement that
is the number one factor in tinnitus symptoms.
You are born with a system that recognizes danger "unconsciously". Esp if
you are awakened during sleep its "fight or die". Therapy directed at
reducing that anxiety reinforcement often works for T. Yes, you still have
the T but you are no longer reinforcing it.
The police and fire men get it. But they are reassured by "old sarge" that
everyone gets it and to forget about it. So, they have it but its not being
reinforced.
Easy to say but how do you do it? Some suggestions at www.ent-consult.com,
but COGNITIVE Therapy is simply convincing your body/system that T is not a
bad.

Time after time, it goes to differentiating between tinnitus with or
without somatic discomfort.  Tinnitus without somatic discomfort is
easy to habituate while the one with somatic discomfort sends a signal
to the patient that something in their nerve is not working properly.

Many people take Xanax and find it helps.
But it will never be a cure.

I tried taking  a Xanax every morning and the T quietened  down  well  - for
a week - then it "broke" back through again :(  Xanax made me feel very
restless and I didn't sleep as well as I normally do either.
