I am suffering from tinnitus in my right ear from las l2 days. its like
a hissing sound, or like someone breathing, Its in sync with my pulse.
and my husband can hear it also.
I had met with an ENT. He took and audio test, and said that I have
some loss of hearing. He asked me to get CBC(blood work) and Thyroid
tests done. I am still waiting for reports. I am trying to get an
appointment with some other ENT, as I felt that this one did not pay
much attention to me, and kind of rushed me out.
After taht I have met my family doc, and he says taht I have no
infection, as he can see no redness on my ear drum. He prescribed
Allegra (180) and Zoloft. After starting the medication, I have lost my
sleep and appetite completely. So after spending two sleepless days, i
went to my Family doc again, he asked to me cut zoloft in half, and
stop allegra.he is also helping me get an appointment with some other
ENT.
Anyone with any pointers on my situation, please reply.
Thanks,
Arti

Arti and I have exchanged several emails and I suggested she
post her question here as we don't hear this too often: her hubby puts
his ear to her's and he can hear her wooshing sound.
Murray, Stephen - any pointers for things she should ask/discuss
during her upcoming ENT appointment?

Sounds like objective tinnitus which is much
less common than the subjective kind. From
what I know, this type of tinnitus usually has
an identifying source. It can be caused either
by blood vessels (pulstile abnormalities)around
the outside of the ear or by spasms of the muscles
which may sound like clicks or crackling inside
the middle ear.
>From the description, I'd place my bet on an
abnormality with the blood vessels because of
the pulsitle nature.

If this was the problem surely a doctor and an ENT would have
investigated this and found something.
12 days - right ear - sounds like tensed muscles in the neck/shoulder.
Try it - costs nothing - will not interfere with doctor's treatment.
================
If no cause can be found after various tests have been performed,
then it is most likely due to MUSCLE TENSION.
Please see a massage therapist - trusted chiropractor,
physiotherapist, aroma therapist etc.
See if there is tension in your body. Ask questions of the therapist.
Where is the tension?
What can I do about it etc?
Then ask your self: What am I doing during the day that could be
causing this?
Do you clamp a phone in your neck? - get a headset.
Are you sitting badly? - improve your posture.
Is your computer positioned correctly?
Is the monitor at eye level - no peering up or down.
Is the keyboard roughly at your waist level?
Is your chair comfortable? no slouching.
Do you drive a lot? see travel tips

Objective tinnitus means someone else can hear it and it can be recorded for
example by a microphone.
Such tinnitus - in beat to the pulse = is associated with some sore of
circulatory situation and is usually treatable.
Thanks for the replies folks, greatly appreciated. Herhighness told me
she had a great sleep last night and thanks to your advice is feeling
a whole lot better about the whole thing. That cool or what :)))
Atta girl Arti, here's hoping it'll soon be nothing more than a
memory.
