My T is really been aggravated lately. First, I played a gig with my
band and even though I wore plugs, I now have a new and louder T level.
Now I have to deal with all the tractors/trucks right next to my house
digging up for sewers and new housing developments. It's very loud
right from dawn and nowhere in my house is safe from the racket. I
haven't slept well and that makes thing worse. I have an appointment
with the ENT at the end of the month, but I'm not very hopefull.
I have a lot of ?'s. First, how often should I wear ear plugs? That
makes the T very noticeable of course, and impossible to try and
ignore. I have read that it also makes hyperacusis worse because you
strain to hear things and your hearing level gets turned up louder. I
have that as well.
Do I wear plugs while these tractors invade my life? what about mowing
the lawn? When I wear plugs for that, I hear the pounding of my feet
and it seems pretty loud. I don't know what to do, my T is to the
point that it now bothers me during the day. I have the tractors right
outside me now and I still hear my ears screaming. I'm so angry and
depressed and don't know what to do.

The sewer work will be finished in a few days. Lifestyle changes are
sometimes necessary to protect one's ears. Have you considered leaving the
band? Try to engage yourself in mentally challenging activities that will
distract you from your tinnitus.

It is hard to find out what caused your T. Is your T associated with
other kinds of discomfort? But i think you should see your doctor
more early than the end of this month.

Maybe you should look into getting maskers. They look kind of like
hearing aids and pipe white noise into your ears drowning out tinnitus
and reducing hyperacusis as well. In other words as I understand the
device, your T will be greatly reduced and the sound of the tractors
will be muffled. There is also a combination masker/hearing aid
available as well. These devises are prescribed by audiologists.
I would say to only use ear plugs when directly exposed to really loud
noises such as your lawn mower. I use ear plugs for instance when I run
my wet/dry vac in the garage, that thing is so loud an 18 wheeler could
crash into my house and I wouldn't hear it. Ear plugs should be worn
for that sort of thing even for those who don't have ear problems.
