I'd like if I may to discuss the issue of hearing new tinnitus tones that
suddenly appear. I've had t for 15 years now. It's always been the hissy
type and despite the fact that it fluctuates in volume, the actual tinnitus
sound itself never varies and consequently I've largely become accustomed to
it. A couple of days ago I started to hear a pure tone as well as my normal
hiss. On my guitar it's pitched at a 'B' note and it's fairly constant. Very
annoying actually and this is much harder to deal with. Today it's just the
same, but oddly the noise seems to fluctuate and certain things make it
louder like being around computers. This is quite sad as my job means I'm
round computers all day.
My question really is, have any of you guys experienced actual changes in
your tinnitus sound? Have the changes been permanent and if not, how long
have they lasted?? Has there been a trigger that caused the change??
Thanks for your help
Dave

Mine, like yours, is usually the hissing or cricket sound but does appear as
a pure tone from time-to-time, usually for a short period. It also moves
from side-to-side and once disappeared for a day. It used to drive me crazy
but now I don't let it bother me and never hear it unless I give it my
attention, only to find it as loud as ever.

If it's a "pure" tone it's probably a SOAE rather than usual subjective
tinnitus. I get those once in a while too, they are actually the cochlear
hairs spontaneously vibrating usually for limited periods of time, altho I
read about one that lasted for several weeks.
