Has your tinnitus gotten worse?

I'm 25, I've had light ringing in my ear for as long as I can remember, I
thought it was normal, then I found out it wasn't. I also started playing
drums last year, I used earplugs a lot but didn't put them in all the way,
sometimes not at all. Then I reached a point where I was -really- noticing
my tinnitus, the thing is I don't know if its actually got worse, or if
its all psychological and I'm just much more aware of it now... Throughout
my life I've gone to about 50 loud rock concerts without protection and
although I've listened to music louder than I should have in my earphones,
I don't think I did it more than most other teenagers, etc..

But now I have 15db custom earplugs that I wear at all times when I'm
playing music or at concerts, I don't blast my headphones anymore..
I don't really notice my tinnitus much unless I put my headphones
on, or if I'm lying down on my side which blocks an ear. But when I do
notice it, I notice it a lot, and it upsets me, I wish it wasn't there,
and I want to do everything possible so that it doesn't get worse.
I don't know if this is relevant or anything.. but my tinnitus sounds like
the hum from a tv screen, but lower pitched, and I've gotten my hearing
tested and its above average at all frequencies. So,

A. what are the odds that this is noise induced tinnitus
B. what are the odds that it will get worse, perception or reality
C. what can be done to prevent this?
D. my ear block up a lot, I plug my nose and 'pop' them every now and then,
kinda like when you yawn. when I swallow hard I get a sound in my ears,
i think I have a sinus problem, could this have something to do with my
tinnitus?

thanks

Well, John, you questions should have been answered by your ENT
doctors.  So either they are too expensive or you have lost confidence
with them.

You may check if the pillow you are sleeping with is too high.  High
pillow hinders blood circulation.  And also you may want to go for a
test of your lipid level and see if there is too much junk in your
blood vessels.  I once had a guy who experienced 'hum' sound.  His ENT
doctor told him that was due to high junk level in the blood.  He got
well later on. His ENT doctor is one in China.  They do as a
group(doctors) subscribe to that poor blood circulation has something
ot do with tinnitus, while the American school does not.

I strongly suspect blood circulation has an effect, at least on my tinnitus.
When I lie down every night in bed my tinnitus increases greatly and takes
several minutes to build to its full crescendo. This effect is real; it's
quite different from the result of me concentrating on it in a quiet room.

The only thing I can think is that this is due to more blood flow around or
through the tinnitus-producing areas, since gravity is no longer acting to
'drain' my head.  BTW when I tried Betahistine 2 yrs ago (prescribed by my
doctor) it made my tinnitus _worse_.   And my tinnitus started just after a
course of massage which was intended to increase the blood supply to my head
and neck and ease its muscles following on from a course of chiropractic.
I shall never risk neck massage again !
