I was on synthroid thyroid medication for 6 years and
decided to try Armour thyroid which is a natural
thyroid medication. In 3 weeks I heard a faint hissing
in my right ear and at one month it turned into a
whistling tea kettle sound LOUD.  I asked my doc
and he said it just takes time to adjust to the med.
By 2 1/2 month on Armour I switched back to the synthroid
because I couldn't take the tea kettle sound anymore.
I have been on the synthroid for 3 weeks now and
it is starting to quiet down (knock on wood).
I hope this will go away and I can totally sympathize with
all of you.

I tried the trt that Jennifer suggested and a cricket sound
seems to hide my T.  I have a cd player with speakers by
my bed and it will play all night. Its the only relief I have
found.

I know it has been said that a thyroid problem will cause
ringing but will it go away when I am on the right dose
again?  I sure hope so.  And has this happened to anyone
else you know of?
      Thank You,

Another question:
WHY does the thyroid cause ringing.  What exactly
is going on in my body with thyroid that would cause
this to happen.
     Thank You,

Since your ears didn't ring when on Synthroid but did when on Armour, and
presuming both drugs corrected your thyroid condition, logic tells me this
is a reaction to Armour and not caused by your thyroid condition.
