For anyone who has a masker or some sort of noise generator  at home..if
your tinnitus is so bad it is really annoying you, just do your own tinnitus
retraining therapy...listen to it for a solid 4 hours a day...I know TRT
takes months and months to work, but I am telling you, my ears are the
quietest they have been in 2 years.

Imagine how quiet they will be if I keep this up for another year. t's
rather annoying at first, but my hubby gets up about 2 hrs b4 me and he just
switches it on in the room as he walks out and thats 2 hours covered, then I
play it for 2 more hours when I get up. whle im checking my emails making
coffee etc...... I am 100% confident that this is going to work, considering
the improvement already.

Jennifer:  I've had tinnitus for the last 12 years and I have tried white noise
maskers but I did not give them enough time.  What kind of noise maker do you
use?  And should it be on when you are sleeping?
I would appreciate a reply. Thank you.

ok..each to their own...I am using a noise generator from homedics..it has
wite noise. spring rain, ocean waves, and mounain stream, I coose theone
that masks my tinnitus the best..I listen to it for 4 hrs straight a
day...can be while your sleeping if you can handle that..I dont really like
sleeping with it. Basically find the noise that masks your tinnitus the best
and get into a habit of listening to it for 4 hours a day..the way I was
explained how this works is that the inner hairs are flat so the brain
perceives its hearing sounds even though its not and the neuro transmittors
send out the signal that the are hearing sound ( tinnitus) eventually by
listening to this for 4 hours a day the neuro ransmittors learn to
recognized what is real sound and what isnt.

I am not telling anyone t do this, and my explanation may not be exactly
correct, but this is what they told me and it cost me a lot of money to hear
it, so Im telling you free.

It's your decision and good luck.

Egad!  Touchy subject, TRT.  Wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole!

Eeeeek, Eva

One of the basic rules of many tinnitus programs is to avoid silence at all
times!  Day and night.

TRT does not take months and months to work.  Nearly all of the patients get
some immediate improvement.  At least that is what I have found in the past
seven years...as a full time TRT clinician.....glad you are finding some
relief.........

I have had immediate improvement, I thought maybe it was just the placebo
effect though!

The woman that assessed me told me most people got some releif after a year,
and some got it as little as 6 months.
I just wish I knew about this before..it's tedious work but it's worth it, I
have been protecting my ear for 2 years subconsciously I think..never using
this ear for the phone, preferring silence...now I know that moderate noise
is best.

Thanks everyone this group has helped me...If it wasnt for this place I
would never have heard of TRT.
