Jennifer Bell - 07 Dec 2004 04:35 GMT Is it normal for T to get progressivley worse? I have had mine for 2 years the noises have worsened and the hearing going down and still going lower......I haven't got menieres. (so neurologist says) All this to makes me anxious for what lays ahead, with the hearing diminishing the way it is, and the T worsening.

Although I honestly don't know, I don't think it's normal, BUT I do NOT think you have any reason to be anxious. I know it's easy for me to say from here, but please try and focus on the fact it might also get better. Try not to think so far ahead as your anxiety, whilst fully understandable, is not actually helping your T. I believe you will be fine, and no matter how you feel you will cope. In fact if you do want to look ahead, the longer you have T the better you are at dealing with it. Keep positive, Jenny.
Please don't take this is a personal attack on you, but I am just tying to help you stay positive.
All the best, Simon.
Jennifer Bell - 07 Dec 2004 06:27 GMT Hi Simon, don't worry I am still positive and the kids are noticing that Im not complaining about my ears half as much as before.
It's just that I still have this underlying fear, (because I know a few ppl with T and none of theirs is like mine) that there is something causing mine, like an acoustic neuroma, considering all the health problems I am having along with my T. ( I know they are not all caused by anxiety, I have had anxiety since I was 17..and that's 20 years ago) even though my MRI which I had done 5 months after this started was clear...anyway I can voice all these fears I guess on Thursday when I go to have my tinnitus assessment....I will let you know how it goes..and don't sorry about me taking what you write as a personal attack, I don't..I can tell your a nice person. I am owever in the process of "trying" to give up smoking, so if my posts start getting a tad touchier..you'll know why.
Thanks for your input Simon.

Mine has fluctuated that way for almost 15 years with no worsening of hearing or tinnitus. After one test on a bad day, my neurotologist (incredibly) diagnosed AIED (autoimmune inner ear disease); a later test showed normal hearing.
Fluctuating hearing is sometimes associated with endolymphatic hydrops. But I'm not sure that knowing that is much help!

Jennifer Bell - 08 Dec 2004 00:09 GMT endolymphatic hydrops is menieres disease?

See http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MenieresDG Well, your neurologist could be right or wrong. But, no, endolymphatic hydrops is not Meniere's disease. Idiopathic endolymphatic hydrops is Meniere's disease. There are other forms of endolymphatic hydrops, and they are milder than Meniere's disease.

I consider this a success story, Jenny. When you get home and hear the RRRRRRrrrringgggg, don't answer it. :-)
I'm interested in what this "tinnitus assessment" entails, as I've never had one myself. My doctors have merely questioned me briefly and dismissed my complaint, feigning ignorance and/or indifference, depending on their mood. If you would, could you share the experience with us? I feel like I'm from California. How many Californians does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Five, one to screw in the bulb, and four to share the experience. :-)
Best wishes,
scp
Jennifer Bell - 08 Dec 2004 12:46 GMT well I dont really know what the tinnitus test entails yet, ut ti think they measure the frequency of my T etc find out the best ways to mask it and how much hearing loss there is blah blah..... I too, up till now has been dismissed by DR'S...will be quite exciting to know that someone is actually acknowledging that I have noises in my ear and they want to know more about them..Im ready to spill the beans!!
I will fill you all in tomorrow night.
seeya !!
