Hi all, I got my mouth splint yesterday, it is in for repair at the moment,
I split it already!!

I must really clench heaps..I have noticed now that the muscles near my
cheek bones are really sore and tired when I open my mouth. Has anyone who
has had a mouth splint ever experienced anything similar in the early stages
of using one?
Thanks !

I noticed how sore my gums and cheekbones were before I got the bite guard; I
also replaced a bunch of teeth on the side I ground most due to their cracking
from the pressure.

When I first got my guard, it was too high, and I woke the next day with an
excruciating headache.  Later, it definitely took a while, maybe even weeks,
for my jaw to relax and stop chomping on it.  I stopped using it after some
months, no longer needed it, I guess the clenching habit was gone.  Every once
in a great while it returns and I use it for a bit once more.

That splint is no good.  I had one done and did not produce the
reaction you described.  I have not been wearing it for the past few
days and am still feeling ok.  Try to sleep without a pillow for a few
days.
