Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo

Hello,  Two weeks ago I awoke with this problem. When I roll over in bed the
room spins wildly for about 15 secs. and then settles down. If I roll over in
bed from the other side it doesn`t happen. When it is happenning I can`t focus
my eyes on anything.  Actually in bed it feels kinda cool.......like I am high
or something.
The same day this started happenning it started to happen at work. I would tilt
my head in a up and back motion to look at the clock on the wall and the room
would start to spin.  Or if when I get home I will be checking the mail and
tilt my head a little downward and the spinning will happen again....sometimes
it gets so bad I have to hang onto something because I feel I might fall.
There is no  hearing loss or anything else just the spinning. Strange thing is
I can`t get it to happen twice.
After, turning over in bed and the spinning stops.....I roll right over again
and roll back again but it doesn`t happen again.  I can walk upright for a long
time and everything is fine but if I bend over like to pick something up there
comes the spinning.  But when it ceases and I bend over again it doesn`t
happen.
Should I wait a few more weeks to see if it goes away on it`s own?  Or go to
the doctors office soon?

You *should* see an experienced doctor right now rather than allowing
the symptoms to develop any further.  Most doctors don't know how to
treat ears.  I went to more than 15 doctors during the whole process
of my tinnitus.  You may need to visit many doctors before finding out
the one that knows what to do.  You might as well talk to Murray in
this group and save your time and effort.

My personal method is to clasp my hands behind my back, pull my
shoulders down, while stretching the top of the head (not the chin) to
the ceiling. Hold for 10 seconds. Repeat 5 times.
Try and train yourself to sleep flat on your back - sleeping on your
side keeps the neck muscle in a cramped position.

This will be your first port of call. Ther exercise could be done
lying down, standing or seated.

It is very likely that you have extreme tension in the neck muscles.
Can you ask yourself what is happening in your daily life that is
setting up this tension?

Since this is usually very easily and quickly cured, I'd see an ENT right
away. You know the name of your suspected ailment, so I assume you've seen
information on the canalith repositioning procedure. It's done in the doctor's
office.

You might want to look for an otologist or neurotologist, as this is an inner
ear problem.

I hadn't checked the group in several days, and today I found your note
complaining of the exact same condition I have been experiencing for the
past month. I have even gone as far as asking my doctor to send me for a CT
Scan of the  brain. I still don't have results, and I am scared. I have
discovered many people that have suffered from this vertigo but it goes away
in a week or two.  The worst happens when I sit up to get out of bed, and
when I lay down. I have checked on my daily activity, and I find no earth
shattering alterations. Please let me know how you are getting along and if
you find something to ease the condition. Thanks.

This sure sounds like benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.

If so, it is usually very easily and quickly cured with the canalith
repositioning procedure. It's done in the doctor's office. (This is a
procedure to reposition a tiny crystal that has moved from its normal place
within the inner ear. It involves moving the head through a series of turns to
cause the crystal to be trapped in a region of the labyrinth where it does not
stimulate vestibular receptors.)

You might want to look for an otologist or neurotologist, as this is an inner
ear problem.
