That's great news Ken. It took some time for me to get used to leaving the
radio on at night, as I too preferred silence while trying to go to sleep.
What do you do during the day to divert your attention away from your T?

I don't do anything that I know of. Sometimes when my T changes, I panic,
but I'm getting better at talking myself out of it. I don't know why my T
scares me the way it does. Other than that, it's just there always, but I
don't think it bothers me that much anymore. I'm okay as long as it is my
normal T.

That ~is~ fantastic news, Ken.
Patty, before I habituated ... or while I was in the beginign stages
of habituating,
I would keep my mind busy. In my free time I began to donate more time
to my community and to helping others. I used the mental trick of
'promising
myself' that I would 'listen to the tinnitus later' but not now
because there
was something else that I wanted to do instead. The trick worked
pretty well.
Also, by helping others more I realized that in comparison to many of
the people
in the community I was helping, my own personal problem of 'head
noise' was
not nearly as pressing nor significant.

Yes, Bruce, in the greater scope, there are far worse ailments. We need
only look around us to see how very fortunate we are....even with the 'head
noise'....life is good.

Yes. And by working to redirect my attention away from the tinnitus
and onto
larger problems it not only served to distract me but also worked to
attach less importance to my noise. The huge emotional attachment that
we have to the
noise (ie: Oh my God it won't stop!!!!) before habituation is greatly
due to
the importance and significance we place onto the noise which, of
course, is
self-defeating because the more we latch onto it the louder and worse
it becomes.
After habituation it just becomes a little sound you once in a while
hear in
the background.
I'm a huge believer in redirecting one's energies when dealing with
the early stages of tinnitus.
