trying desperately to get the inflammation in my sinuses under
control.

just went on a fairly hefty course (maybe?) of prednisone. starting
out at 50mg for three days then going down gradually over the course
of 16 days to nothing.

right now, experiencing profuse sweating, nervousness/anxiety, etc. -
no fun so far.

i should have known. i've tried this before and suffered severe
anxiety, but sometimes it has actually energized me and made me feel
good also.

anyway, was reading about anti-inflams used to treat Chron's disease
and wondered if any here had tried any of this class of anti-inflams
to help with nasal/sinus inflammation?

here's the info on this class of anti-inflams:

Most people are first treated with drugs containing mesalamine, a
substance that helps control inflammation. Sulfasalazine is the most
commonly used of these drugs. Patients who do not benefit from it or
who cannot tolerate it may be put on other mesalamine-containing
drugs, generally known as 5-ASA agents, such as Asacol, Dipentum, or
Pentasa. Possible side effects of mesalamine preparations include
nausea, vomiting, heartburn, diarrhea, and headache

Sounds like you are trying to taper off the prednisone too quickly. I am
also in the last days of a prednisone pulse. Dr's instructions say taper to
20 mg and then just quit. I could never do that without serious negative
prednisone withdrawal consequences. I tapered from 20mg>10mg>5mg and
tomorrow will take 2 1/2 mg for 2 days before quitting. I felt achy at 10mg
but feel sorta ok today. My antibiotics end on friday and that's when I find
out if any of this was really helpful. Unfortunately I'm guessing my chronic
sinus infection will be back to full strength by next monday.

Hello,
Yeah, i know what you mean: last night i put some steroid
on my lips; today i cleaned the whole house; did the entire
laundry (even though there was none there to be done);
cooked for and entertained dinner guests and beat up my
partner; now here i am because i am wide awake, and cannot
even think of going to bed - yeah man, that is great stuff . . .

Yep, sounds like you got pretty 'fired up' there - LOL.

What do you mean though by 'put some steroid on my lips'? Do you mean
you ingested some steriods or used some kind of steriod ointment or
what?

Hello,
As you remember i got Staph. from my Doc's office and am
now back on Cephalexin (whatever spelling), and of course
it makes the Candida worse, which keeps trying to eat my
lips off my face (guess i have candida in my saliva glands).
Well any way i usually use Lotramine on my lips to control
the Candida, however i found an old tube of Mycolog (about
twenty years old) and thought i would try it instead of the
Lotramine . . . (: - worked real good . . . (: (: (: rof . . .

Hang in there! I know this is not what you wanted to do but see if it
helps until you find the right cause/treatment. The phychosis should go
away in a day or two as you decrease dosage. I agree that 16 days might
not get you to the gradual decrease you need to bring your adrenals back
on. I use the same course as augustwestern...usually don't stop at 10mg.
or 20mg. but go to 5mg., then 2.5 mg, then come off. As you come down to
30mg. you should stop feeling that "bugs in your veins" feeling if that is
what you are talking about. The double edged sword again...this will
provide you the relief to sleep, the sleep will help your body recuperate,
you will feel better in the long run. Take your calcium and vitamin D...I
use the chewables, anything that tastes like candy can't be too bad...lol.
Keep posting as to how your doing each day. Trudy.

Also. Are you absolutely sure you are not allergic to aspirin or other
non-steroidals? Trudy.

have you tried breathe right strips or quiet night (or sinus cones)? They
may look stupid, but who cares when your home or at night.

They work wonders for me. Better than all the meds (tried them all) and
the 2 surgeries.

Your symptoms are almost identical to mine.

Give them a try !

Andrew
