The last few times I have suffered a sinus infection, the very first
symptom I experienced (before even realizing that I had an infection)
was scratchiness on one side of my throat and a sense of discomfort
going up into the ear on that side, but no discolored drainage of any
kind. I have no idea what this is, other than something going on with
the Eustachian tube.  Within 3 or 4 days of this one-sided sensation,
I get a full blown infection.  Does anyone know what this could be?

Although I haven't had a cold in years, one sure way I could distinguish
its onset from that of a simple allergy (which produced the same
symptoms),, was the cold was always preceded by a slight sore throat.
...Must have something to do with the introduction of the virus into
the body.   ...Jon

That sore throat is caused by your post nasal drip.

My sinus infections start like that and my inner ear is filled also.

The last time my MD gave me Clarinex to be taken at night and put me on
an antibiotic for the infection and to gargle with warm salt water twice
a day.
