Hi all, I have always been a snotty lad... my father says I have always
grunted, sniffed, cleared my throat etc. but in the last 3 years my other
half has noticed (and so have I) that im 'snotting' more than I used to.
sometime im having to clear my throat so often I end up with headaches. I
wouldn't thought id got sinusitis because it has no nasty taste and im not
getting any pain from it...its just immensely irritating having snot
constantly dripping down into the back of my throat.
any ideas?

You probably have sinusitis (or severe allergies) but you need to see an Ear
Nose and Throat specialist to find out.

That's one way that it starts. Have you recently moved into a new
environment? Or, is there some other possible irritant that is causing
you to have this allergic reaction? Have you be stressed out, or not
sleeping well. These things cause depletion of your cortizone levels.
The constant post nasal drip will progress into nasal swelling. You mau
also get, or have currently, frequent heart burn. This is a result, and
causes more swelling. Once the chronic swelling sets in, you will get
frequent sinus infections.

When you spit or cough up the post nasal drip (snot in your throat) into
a tissue, what color is it?
If the stuff dripping down the back of your throat is discolored, that
often indicates sinusitis (though not definitively).
If it's just thick but clear, that can be all kinds of things. See your
physician.

its clear and tasteless. just an over production of mucus pouring down the
back of my throat.

It may not be an "overproduction," but a thicker-than-average mucus that
you are more aware of.
Normally, your sinuses and nose produce over *one quart* of mucus every
day. Since it's supposed to be thin and watery, we usually don't notice
it. But we can notice a smaller quantity of thicker mucus because it
tends to clog up our nostrils and throat.
Either way, this can be caused by so many things that it's best to see
your physician.
