Constant earaches

Is there a decongestant that is safe for people with high blood pressure? My
BP is controlled with meds, but if I take Claritin-D or any "D" product, my
BP shoots up.
I irrigate 3-4 times a day (per my doctor's instructions) but I now have a
constant earache on one side (the side I sleep on). Doc gave me Duraphen II
but it doesn't seem to help. I was taking claritin (24 hr) twice a day (per
doc instructions plus chlor-trimeton throughout the day. I went back to
weekly allergy shots instead of monthly.
I'm so miserable. Living on ibuprofen too.
Advice appreciated.

Hello,
Now you know why irrigation scares me. It can be done, however
it must be done "RIGHT"!!!!! If you want i will get into that later, plus
acidophilus.
Remember the "Saying":
Where there is irritation;
There is blockage;
Where there is blockage;
There is swelling;
Where there is swelling;
There is infection.
Therefore let us say for example, you have Candida in your
saliva glands, causing swelling in the ear etc. area, which
seems to be giving you an "earache"; then the anti-biotic
clears up the "infection", but not the fungus, so you continue
to suffer with fungus infection (the real problem), and
round and round we go again.
The anti-biotic makes fungus worse, so it doesnot sound too
much as if your problem is fungus, however that is hard to
believe under the circumstances of the 96% report. Let us
try this:
Next earaches make a solution of 1/2 peroxide and 1/2 alcohol;
drip gently into ears. If you hear a lot of hissing etc,
you have the ear-fungus infection, and that solution is about
all you should need, as long as you use it every time you
come near water (shower, swimming, caught in the rain, humid
days etc.). On the other hand if the ear thingy is coming
from your sinuses, you will want to read this:

The first thing i must say is unless you are on your death-bed,  use Amphotericin
B only as a
nasal spray, because it can and has caused heart attack when taken internally

Most fungi simply colonise the sinuses and sit there without causing any
inflammation.
Occasionally the fungi may invade the mucous membranes and provoke intense
inflammation
and allergic response. Even more rarely the fungi may invade the bones of
the facial skeleton
and damage blood vessels and nerves, even extending to the eye and brain

Therapy for the Amphotericin B deoxycholate, nose spray is:
3 months;
5 squirts each nostral;
2 times aday;
Another Possible Procedure, however using ONLY the 10-squirts worth, and
only done twice
aday, and remembering this MUST NOT be swallowed;
http://www.digitalnaturopath.com/cond/C55833.html
The Sinus Flooding Procedure:
a. Lay on a bed face up with the head hanging over the edge of the mattress
so the nostrils are
pointing straight up toward the ceiling.
b. Use an eye dropper to fill each nostril with the rinse solution. Keep
filling each nostril until
the rinse solution starts to drip in the throat. Remain in the same position
for 2 to 3 minutes.
c. Roll over on the stomach and let the head flop forward over the edge of
the mattress. Remain
in that position for 2 to 3 minutes then sit up and let the rinse drain out
through the nose.
(THIS FOLLOWING DOESNOT APPLY TO US AT THE PRESENT AND/OR UNTIL AN
ACTUAL "WASH" IS MADE AVAILABLE)
d. Important: Repeat this procedure 45 minutes later. The two rinses 45 minutes
apart constitute
a single rinse session. Perform two or more such rinse sessions per day.
Relief will typically be
noticeable by the second day. It is not unusual for the sinus infection to
be gone within three
days.
e. Repeat two sessions per day until the infection subsides. Very persistent
infections may
require five to seven day or more.
````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Amphotericin B deoxycholate nasal spray/wash is shipped in a cold pack and
must be kept
refrigerated. Only a one month's supply at a time is available, because it
is so perishable,
however i finally found a "Dixie" Mayo Clinic near me and am now using the
"wash", not
"drops", and is $50.00 cheaper than the above-mentioned drugstore.
`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Here are interesting statements i saw while rushing through the Internet.
It is nice to know if you
absolutely must put your life at risk with Amphotericin B, you can quickly
get off of it :

?Surgical treatment is mandatory. Initiate medical treatment with systemic
antifungals once
invasion is diagnosed. Amphotericin B (2 g/d) is recommended; this can be
replaced by
ketoconazole or itraconazole once the disease is under control?.

AND AGAIN:

?Acute invasive fungal sinusitis
Emergent treatment is necessary once this condition is suspected. Initiate
systemic antifungal
treatment after surgical debridement. High doses of amphotericin B (1-1.5
mg/kg/d) are
recommended. Oral itraconazole (400 mg/d) can replace amphotericin B once
the acute stage
has passed. Treatment of the underlying immune deficiency, if possible, is
desirable.?

What is your earache due to?
is it outer ear infection
middle ear conditon?
TMJ
referred pain from the neck?
chronic mastoid?

you need a diagnosis here.

Doc said no infection. Congestion.
I'm now on a Guair-Phenyl prescription.
It's probably related to not being able to get out all the irrigation fluid.
I'm on BP meds, so can't take all the over-the-counter "D" stuff.

Speaking of...not an earaches but plugged ear constantly. My right ear is
totally plugged. I can't hear out of it at all. No infection. It happened
during an irrigation and I cannot get it to clear (pop). Help! I tried the
thing they taught us in the military while flying...valve salvo (sp) or
something. Geez, I cannot even get my body to bend that way. I keep
plugging my nose and gently blowing and it only makes it worse. How do you
unplug an ear? Trudy.
Shirley Thebaglady - 04 Sep 2004 10:49 GMT
My hubby used to get  plugged ears after swimming under water. He would
hop on 1 foot and tilt his head down on that side.

Now his MD says to use Swimmers ears drops.

I had heard you could take a diluted solution of hydrogen peroxide mixed
with water and warm it up, drip into the ear with head tilted and then tip
head the other way to empty. At this point I will try almost anything. I
keep saying "what?" everytime someone speaks to me and I am talking loudly
and it is annoying people...lol. Trudy.

I lost my balance yesterday.  My ears have been fluttering and ringing
the last couple of days. Headachy too. Aleve helped with the headache
but it is back this morning.

I am going to gargle today to see if this helps me. This helped me
before.

Sounds like you may have gotten fluid into your Eustachian Tubes. Doctor's
should warn patients to irrigate safely, but they don't. Some doctors and
other idiots tell people to irrigate on their backs, which has high risks of
putting fluid into one's Eustachian Tubes, and possibly into one's middle
ear.

The opening to the Eustachian Tubes is near the back of the throat, about
even with the nostrils. The safest way to irrigate, IMHO, is with the face
straight down. This way the opening to the Eustachian Tubes is upwards, and
the middle ear is even higher.

Ask your doctor about this, and ask him why he didn't warn tell you how to
safely irrigate. Then you might consider talking to your lawyer.

There is a lot of bad advice on the Internet. Question all advice, including
my own. Also watch out for Pamdomania. He is very strange and gives
dangerous advice, probably with a purpose to injure others.

Hello,
Pathetic little CanDo, who hates straight Christians,
has a lot of strange hang-ups, and his tabu about getting
on the bed on your back, only reveals his sexual perversions,
so pay no attention to the poor thing . . .
BTW the eustachian tube openings are in the roof of your
mouth right behind, and on either side of the center, lump-like protrusion.
Put the tip of your tongue back there and you can feel them. I will try to
find you a picture - be right back . . . maybe . . .

Nikki, did your doc make sure you don't have any infection in your ear at
all? Chronic ear pain is the worst. If it is long term I would really see
another specialist as it is not normal to have it last that long. I agree
with CanDo about irrigation, and if you are doing it wrong maybe some
solution got into the tubes? Let us know what happens. Trudy.
Shirley Thebaglady - 22 Aug 2004 10:44 GMT
My hubby takes BP meds and it says on his prescription bottle no
decongestants should be used.

So ask your pharmacist at the drug store.
He gave my hubby something over the counter to use.
He is also useing Claritin with no problems as his MD okayed it for his
Hay Fever. It melts in your mouth and works within a half hour.

Re your earache, are you using Neti Pot?  This requires you to lean your head
to the side during use. The soliution pools at the Eustachian Tube opening and
earche and ear infection is quite common among  Neti pot users.
With the Hydro Pulse, an advantage is that you automatically keep  the head
"straight" to avoid solution lyng on this opening to the ear.

Nikki - 23 Aug 2004 16:51 GMT
Nope. I've always used the hydro pulse and I keep my head straight and
forward over the sink. But then I hang my head to the floor and let excess
water drain out. Problem is there's more water later on, and sometimes it
comes out at the most inconvenient times. I just can't get all the water
out, and I think that's the problem.
