I have this lingering sinus infection. I have tried nasal irrigation but it
appears
to push the infection farther up to my sinuses.  Will taking a high dose
of guaifensin (2,400 milligrams) help to liquefy mucus?  Antibiotics no
longer work for me.  I have had chronic infections for 15 years! The sinus
surgery just helped pollen and mold get to my sinuses all the more.

                       Any advice would be appreciated.
                              Thanks

Quite a number of people on this newsgroup who have tried guai. say that it
does not really help...

ask your doctor about using proteolytic enzymes to thin the mucus and reduce
swelling. Ask about papain from papaya and bromelain from pineapple.

Do you know anything about potassium chloride solution for thinning the
secretions?

potassium chloride is one of the electrolytes in your body needed for your
health. It is used in the IV solution Ringer's.
Potassium Chloride is one of the electrolytes coontained in Breathe.ease XL

As far as I know you don't want to use it in more than a 3% solution. I don't
know if it has value for nasal irrigation  by itself. Also the need to have the
solution isotonic is important.
