Radio Frequency procedure for polyps?

I recently saw a new ENT and his approach is totally different than
the others I've seen in the past, so I'd like to see what others
think.  When I was 16 I had a surgery to remove polyps and correct a
"deviated septum".  I had sinus infections really bad.  Now I'm 31 and
for many years now I've been having sinus problems, usually congestion
and headaches.  I was even addicted to sudafed for several years.
Anyway, in January I went to a new ENT because I had an infection and
terrible headaches.  My ears and top teeth hurt.  He heated up a rod
and stuck it up my nose and that (with a short course of antibiotics)
cleared up my sinuses for 4 months.  No headaches at all.  It was
wonderful.  Now, about 6 months later, the headaches are back.
Unfortunately the former ENT retired, so I saw a new one.  He didn't
even look into the sinuses with the little scope like the first one.
Instead he did what he called an ultrasound of the sinus.  It showed
my right sinus had a polyp.  It was very cool, he explained how it
worked and I could see that the right was definitely different than
the left.  His prednisone and antiobiotics and nasal sprays cleared up
the infection but I still have pressure and headaches.  He proposed to
do a radio frequence procedure.  Unfortunately it's not done in his
office but in a clinic, I'm not sure why.  I searched this group and
found only a handful of posts and not much information on it.  I plan
to see a second ENT to get a second option, and I'm very curious what
people here think.  Is it effective for polyps?  Since he didn't look
into my sinus with the scope, I'm not sure how he can be so confident
with only the ultrasound.  Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Michael

Hello,

Steroids will shorten your life; give you high, blood
pressure and make you fat, yes, get another Doc, and
tell him soundly, you want nothing to do with steroids.
He will pay no attention to you so check out your
prescription on the Internet, just to make sure.

Mayo Clinic has recently discovered 96% of "sinus" trouble
is due to "nasal" fungus. Go to Mayo Clinic and ask for the
fungus test, then if it is positive get the Amphotericin B
deoxycholate nasal, lavage wash. Most likely yours is
Candida - wanna make a bet? Of course if you work around
a farm or something of that nature it could be Aspergillus.

I am convinced now it is the manure and potting soil etc.
i am working with that finally did me in, not to mention all
the Candida Doc had to dig out, after removing the polyps.
He worked on me for nearly 3 hours in the operating room, and
that was just my nose, and without going into the sinuses. If
you hurry, at this point, you may only have to have your
polyps removed in the "chair", under local anesthesia in the Doc's
office.

I donot know why they always refer to polyps as, "A polyp",
as if there is always only one there, when they know dam
well there are oddles. Polyps donot come in "ones", they
are usually "clusters". OH sure, you will hear someone say
he only had "one" polyp, however i wouldnot believe him; he
probably passed out before the entire cluster was removed,
thus only remembers the "one".

Here is something i forgot. Do you have polyps in your
sinus or nasal passage? What people are calling "sinus"
is usually, really NASAL. I feel using the word, "sinus"
is just a bad habit, and should be using the word, "nasal".

Not short courses.

False.

The prednisone was only for 5 days.  Now that I quit, my headache is
back.  I'm not sure it worked.  I can breathe better but there is
sinus pressure and headache.

The fungus idea is certainly worth pursuing.

The doctor said I have "a polyp" which he showed me on the ultrasound
(a curve where it shouldn't be).  I'm going to get second opinion from
a doctor who actually looks up inside with a scope.  I am not afraid
to have a surgery if required, I just want these headaches to go away.

Hello,

Polyps donot cause headaches. Infection does.
Remember the "Saying":

Where there is irritation;
There is inflamation;
Where there is inflamation;
There is swelling;
Where there is swelling;
There is infection.

While you are waiting for your appointments:

Make a salt solution:
1 teaspoon of salt to one pint of water;
Gently drip, run whatever, some solution
into your nose several times aday.
Lie on your bed with head hung over the
side with nostrils pointing to the ceiling;
drop/run/whatever the salt solution into the
nose until you feel it in your throat, then stop.
Let it soak; with your fingers, hold closed your nostrils;
stand up and bend over until the top of your head is
pointing at the floor - hold this position for a while.

Actually, at this point, if you are having pain, i would
take an aspirin no matter what.

Another cute trick is to stuff a little cotton into each
nostril to cause moisture. Of course it this makes things
worse you REALLY know you have the fungus, and need Mayo
Clinic's Amphotericin B deoxycholate, nasal lavage wash.

Take a little antihistamine by mouth, while you are at
it, and see if that gives you any relief.

Than look around your sleeping area:
Kitty litter box?
Something dirty nasty lying around?
Smoke?
Get a good air cleaner for your bedroom.
I have two different kinds.
What is going on on your job?
Wear a surgical, face mask.

Vit. E dropped up the nose can make things feel
pretty good too. Liquid Vit. E can be purchased
at the drug store or health food store. While you
are at the Health Food Store get some Pau d arco
tea and drink some of that. Grapefruit, seed
extract is all the rage right now. Talk to the
people at the health food store and ask them for
help with suggestions about your pain etc.
