I have had a similar problem for nearly three years. I have just come
off 3 months lansoprazole for possible reflux with no success. I have
started on the nasonex again for the last week and I think it may be
working. I clear my throat shortly after eating, it starts with a
feeling of irritation (like constriction) at the base of my throat,
and mucus gradually builds up on my voicebox. I suspect the irritation
is a vicious circle i.e. I clear my throat because it is irritated and
this causes futher irritation. Certainly if I try to forget about it,
what I do eventually need to clear seems to clear a lot more easily.
I don't know why eating seems to cause this, and I'm not convinced its
reflux.
There is certainly nothing wrong with me, my ENT has confirmed this.
I'd be interested to hear from others who've experienced similar
conditions.

Prevacid (lansoprazole) will prevent your stomach from secreting most of
its acid. But it doesn't stop you from physically regurgitating the
contents of your stomach. Acidic foods, regurgitated and aspirated into
your airway, can cause irritation too. Even the food particles
themselves can cause physical irritation if they get down into your airway.
A gastroenterologist can test you for reflux to see if you're physically
regurgitating anything.
