I have sinus drainage in the back of my throat and it's affecting my voice.
I can barely talk.  Nothing the doctors gave me is doing any good.  Is there
anything I can do to clear my vocal cords? Maybe something I could drink?
Thanks!

Have they checked carefully (they know how) for  GERD (gasto esopgageal reflux
disease)?

That often is seen in people with sinus problems and may be a more likely
explanation (or a concurrent  cause).

I have had a similar problem for nearly three years. I have just come
off 3 months lansoprazole for possible reflux with no success. I have
started on the nasonex again for the last week and I think it may be
working. I clear my throat shortly after eating, it starts with a
feeling of irritation (like constriction) at the base of my throat,
and mucus gradually builds up on my voicebox. I suspect the irritation
is a vicious circle i.e. I clear my throat because it is irritated and
this causes futher irritation. Certainly if I try to forget about it,
what I do eventually need to clear seems to clear a lot more easily.

I don't know why eating seems to cause this, and I'm not convinced its
reflux.
There is certainly nothing wrong with me, my ENT has confirmed this.
I'd be interested to hear from others who've experienced similar
conditions.

Prevacid (lansoprazole) will prevent your stomach from secreting most of
its acid.  But it doesn't stop you from physically regurgitating the
contents of your stomach.  Acidic foods, regurgitated and aspirated into
your airway, can cause irritation too.  Even the food particles
themselves can cause physical irritation if they get down into your airway.

A gastroenterologist can test you for reflux to see if you're physically
regurgitating anything.

Did they try you on an expectorant like Mucinex?

Inhaling warm steam thru your mouth will moisten your throat, and help
break up that dried-out sinus drainage.  Boil a big pot of water, take
it off the flame, wait till the steam is no longer hot but warm, then
lean over it (not too close!) and breathe the steam thru your mouth.  Or
take a long hot shower and breathe the steam thru your mouth.

Works very well for me.
