Hi
I seem to have developed a sinus infection--my first since getting a
pneumonia shot 1 1/2 years ago. Unfortunately I am allergic or made ill by
most antibiotics. Several people have mentioned getting steroid shots (I
think) into the sinuses. Is this possible and does it work? What would I
ask my Dr for? I am very interested in this as I can't take steroids orally
due to side effects.
Thanks for any information you could give me. You guys are great!

Steroids are only to reduce inflammation and have no effect in infections as
such (unless I suppose the reduced inflammation could allow better air flow
which could help drain etc.).

When you say that some antibiotics make you ill, do you mean that oral
antibiotics upset your stomach or give you diarrhea or something like that?
If so, you could try irrigating out your nose with a topical antibiotic
solution like gentamicin (Wilson's solution) or Bactroban. Since it's
topical, not much will get down into your stomach. Just don't swallow
any of it!
