Clear drainage from ear (now both ears)

I've had this intermittent clear ear drainage problem for about a month.

It started after a cried for about 2 minutes a month ago.. the next morning
I noticed white globs of stuff in my right ear. I used a cotton swab to
clean out... then I noticed clear, foul smelling drainage.

This went on for a week, then went away. it came back, so I saw my doctor.
He prescribed Zephrex and Zithromax.. he said my ear drum was inflamed.
The doctor also said that I was congested.

Some greenish foul smelling junk was cleaned out of my left ear.

Now after that, and finishing my Zephrex and Zithromax, BOTH ears are
draining clear fluid, much worse now! In the day time I hardly notice it,
but at night time I wake up with both ears dripping fluid. The ear canals
itch. There is no foul smelling stuff now.. just clear water draining from
both ears and the fluid is of a sticky consistancy. And now my nose runs
each morning also, plus now I have a sore throat.

What is going on with me?

fyi, I have been also diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis in the past 2
weeks.

Rich.. see a rheumatologist to ask about autoimmune vasculitis and ears.

Thanks. I remember you mentioned this last month.
I saw my new doctor this morning, and I brought this up.
He blew it off although I find this interesting because it is an autoimmune
disease... as is my autoimmune thyroiditis I have going on right now.

The doctor just looked in my ears, gave me a box of Nasonex and script for
Augmentin.

I do get the feeling this is not going to help much. damn it. this fluid
keeps running out of my ears.. I asked this new doc if he would refer me to
an ENT... no, I don't need an ENT he assures me.

Any ideas, anyone? Someone told me that sodium chlorite drops can help
this... can't find any info on that. Dr. Grossan, anyone?

How long was the script? If short duration it could have killed the
bugs making the green fluid but there may be anaerobic bugs causing
the inflamation. These generaly take long doses to erradicate. This
could also explain how it spread to other areas. good luck.

Zithromax was the 5-day course, aka "z-pak"
Zephrex was for 7 days.

If this is an aenorobic infection the course is way to short. Weeks if
not months are needed to eradicate some bugs. Lyme for example needs
months of antibiotics and then Flagyl is put on top to erradicate it.
This is used because the bacteria goes into CWD(cell wall deficient
mode) most antibiotics stop cell wall production. In this situation a
broad spectrum antibiotic just isn't enough. Problem. Lyme can be
tested for now but if it's something else unless they puncture your
eardrum (or sinus) a culture can not be given. ENT's will not puncture
a sinus. too risky.
