I am Sherrie and I am scheduled to get septoplasty and polyps removed
from my sinuses on Monday (July 21st 08). I’ve read your and Matt’s
story, which has been quite helpful to me. I’ve had problems with my
sinuses as long as I can remember. I get sinus infections whenever I
have a cold. Last year I had a sinus infection all winter…. Painful
….. I get tremendous migraines which I believe may be in part to my
sinuses, too. I am going to an “expert” ENT in my area. He has a
steady hand, as I found out when he gave me cortisone shots in my
ear. Oh yeah, I have hearing loss which I am hoping is related. My
doctor doesn’t think it is, but one can always hope. Anyway I saw this
site and it seems that there is no current stories, so I will relay
mine. I am scheduled to have this done at a surgi-center, which means
that I will be sent home the same day. Someone called yesterday to go
over insurance and preparations. I was told not to take any OTC pain
relievers except for Tylenol. No eating after midnight the day before,
but I can brush my teeth and take my BP meds with a small sip of
water. I was also told to wear loose fitting clothing. I’ve heard
many people bleed quite a bit afterwards, so I’ll opt for old sweats
and a tee shirt. It helps to see what others go through. Also here
are some sites that I've read others stories on. I'll update and let
everyone how it went.

Best of luck to you. Please come back after your surgery and let us
know how it went.
Because of the postnasal drainage after the surgery, elevating the head
when sleeping can help a lot.
If you have a recliner in your home, you may find it easier to sleep on
it the first couple of nights. If not, put lots of pillows under your
head when you sleep on your bed at night.
Good luck. Take care.
