Antifungal Ointment

Hi all,

I posted a while back about my chronic sinus infection. I'm waiting for my
CT scan report to arrive so I can post the results. Anyway, I have a
question about using antifungal ointments for sinus infections. My doctor
prescribed Naftin for me a while back for something else, and I was
wondering if it would be okay to apply this to my sinus passages? It's a
water based formula and I've been using it elsewhere on my body for quite
some time.

I think my sinus infection may be mold/fungal related, because I live in an
apartment where there is black mold around the air ducts. When I leave the
apartment during the day, I've noticed that I can breathe easy and my
sinuses feel clear, but as soon as I step back inside my home, the
stuffiness and congestion instantly returns. I'd hate to move, but I think I
may have to. We've been living here for 4 years, and I've never had a
problem with my sinuses until last year after spending a lot of time inside.

Thanks!

Michelle

not sure that i would try it.  You wouldnt' be able to get it deep
enough to do any good.  You need to talk to your landlord or health
dept if they are not cooperative.  My friend in Florida lived in a
place where they couldnt' get rid of it. She moved to a new apt
building closer to work and hasn't had near the amount of problems.
Plus she wasn't lucky in finding a doc that would prescribe
antibiotics beyond 2wks.

Do you irrigate?

I have had good luck with OTC antifungal ointments applied with a 5ml
plastic pipette to about 3-4 inches into my sinuses.

Hi truehawk,

Thanks for the link! Normally,  I use Q-tips to distribute the cream around
my nasal passages, but I'll give the pipettes a try.

I am allergic to mold too.

I read in a magazine to let a small wattage light burn all the time in
our basement to keep it dry  and it really works for us.
My wattage is smaller then a nite light, it plugs into the socket.
I was downstairs yesterday and could not believe the difference.

I always hated to go  into our basement before I did this.

My brother always left a lightbulb burning in his cabin cruiser, to keep
the cabin dry.

Very good advice. Also a bulb in the closet if there is dampness.

Hi Shirleyann,

Thanks for this tip! The two air vents are located right above an end table
in my living room and a chest of drawers in my bedroom; I have a lamp
sitting in both areas. I will start leaving the light on in the living room
and see if that helps. Not sure what to do about the light in the bedroom
though.

Hi,

I use a Netipot 3 to 4 times a week. If I use it everyday, I find that it
makes my sinuses very dry.
