Most of the time, I use the BreatheEase saline mix.  Since it is
basically a mixture of salt and a few other  ingredients, would it not
be possible to simply order these in bulk and mix it myself?
Considering how frequently I rinse, it should save some money in the
long run.  Wondering if anyone has done it.

I'm sure you could. I bought a pot of salt when i got my neti pot.
Now i prefer the sinucleanse packets that have some baking soda in
them.  Just getting it mixed well would be the issue

It isn't rocket science, but you do have to get the xylitol and KCl,
mix thoroughly and in the correct proportions. You have to ensure your
supplies are relatively pure. Since it is for irrigation, some
imprecision is probably OK.

I have been making my own slution for several years now. I was told to us
pickling salt and baking soda. I have a quart jar that I make it up in fo
the week. I use about 2 tsp of each. If it is too strong, just add som
baking soda or make a new batch. Inexpensive and easy to do. Hope thi
helps..CGi

Thanks for replies.  The more I think about it, it might not save that
much money, but I'll still give it a shot.

Yes making it fresh once a week, then you don't need to add chemical
preservatives.

I do it when I have time.
But it's inconvenient, especially when I'm on travel.

The reason BreatheEase XL is sold in small jars is that it is extremely
hydroscopic (absorbs water). It must be made and packaged in special dry
rooms. If the bulk were larger, would need to add chemicals to prevent this.
Normal salt contains chemicals to prevent this, but these are additives that
can irritate the nose. Prefer to keep the Breathe.ease XL free of additives.

I make my solution very simple.  I take a large medecine bottle with a
screw on cap.  I fill 1/3 full of table salt and 1/3 full of baking
soda.  I than shake the mixture and it is done.   When I need to do a
lavage, I just take about 1/3 teaspoon full of this solution and mix
it into 1 cup of luke warm water.  I have been doing it this way for
about 15 years and it works.  I don't worry about sea salt or any
other type of fancy salt.  This works.  It is easy to transport and is
VERY cheap.  I apply it with a baby ear syringe.
