I have a lot of mucus flow in the morning.  It is both post nasal drip
and runny nose.  One of the problems is that I get a lot of mucus in
my throat and this makes me gag.  When I try to run in the morning, it
is even worse.  I have tried gargling with salt water in the morning
and this REALLY makes me gag.  After about 1 - 2 hours, the mucus goes
away and so does the gag reflex.

Fred, when I had that problem- my MD told me to gargle before going to
bed and in the morning.

Try to drink plenty of water too as it thins the mucus.
