A lifetime ordeal

I am looking at a lifetime ordeal with my sinus problems.  I started
showing some problems around age 13.  Two symptoms were showing.  The
first was that I was becoming drowsy in classrooms.  I would nod off.
I was once hit in the head by an eraser by a teacher.  Everyone
laughed.  I was embarassed and remained silent.  The other incident is
that my sinus passages were closing off.  I would have an entire
nostril close up.  The result was that I was not getting enough
sleep.  At night, the nostrils would entirely close off.   I would
rarely dream and I was always a wreck waking up in the morning.  This
carried forward to my college and working career.  You don't make work
alliances when you are constantly dealing with a brain fog.  I wrecked
a car and was fired from numerous jobs.   I also had to deal with
chronic sinus and bronchial infections.  This served to further weaken
me.  I am trying to figure out at age 58 what work I can still do and
where to find employment.  Cigarettes were a large problem for
triggers to my many drowsy attacks.  My sinuses are open now and I am
able to sleep.  In Colorado, a law was passed where people are not
allowed to smoke in public places.

Not to oversimplify a long and chronic condition, but ... have you
tried living elsewhere??

My wife and I would like to move to Colorado, and have visited
numerous times, but .... it's NOT the sinus-friendliest environment,
and ... if you're at altitude ... it just gets worse.

I grew up in upstate New York.  The problems started there.  In fact,
I moved back there from 1986 to 1989.  The respiratory and sinus
problems followed me wherever I went.  I think a place like Florida or
Hawii would be better.  I did have some relief when I went to
Martinique for a week in 1985.  When it comes to cigarette smoke,
there is not a place in the world that would be good for me.  I just
thank God that many local ordinances prohibit SHS in the work place
and in other public places.  I do know that my sinuses are working
better now with the actions that I have taken.
