Sinus infection causing pain referred to the upper molars and premolars
is quite common. Often the pain is posture-dependent--ie: the pain may
be relieved or exacerbated alternatively by lying down or standing up.
Of course there is no way to tell your teeth are not responsible for
this pain without having them checked, so if you haven't in a while,
have your dentist rule out a dental cause for this pain.
Good luck,
Steve

And just for fun:
If your dentist takes X-rays of your upper molars, have him show you on
the X-rays where your maxillary sinuses are. You'll be surprised how
close they are to the roots of your upper molars.

They aren't always super close, but frequently are. You can imagine
that tapping on a tooth that has roots in pretty intimate contact with
the sinus membrane (separated by only a thin layer of bone) can cause
pain if the sinus floor is inflamed. Since pain to percussion can be a
sign of dental abscess, this very frequently poses a diagnostic problem.
