I am 60y and recently had a tube in-planted in my right ear and now my
ear drains out onto my cheek over night. Why?

I am sure that your ears must bother you a lot.
Could you give a bit more information.

I had ear infections last yr (first time in my life) & my Dr.
recommended I have a tube implant. Since the implant, slight hear
increase but when in a reclining position for an hour or more fluids
drain out of my ear drum .  At times over night it is so much it can
run down my cheek wake me. Now while sitting upright and in high
altitudes it starts draining without any warning symptoms.
When I get up in the morning the inside of my whole ear is crusted and
damp with fluids. I went back to the Dr. and he sent me for a hearing
test and said that he couldn't see any water in my ear. ? ? My sinus'
are clear & normal with no running condition. There are times though
when my nose will run without any reason, but not often.

It sounds like your physician had a tube implanted to try to ease
chronic ear infection.  But that the tube is not doing the job.

When there is a chronic ear infection, there is often a chronic sinus
infection that is feeding the ear infection right through the Eustachian
tube.  I suggest you get a second opinion from another ENT--and ask him
whether you might have chronic sinusitis as the underlying cause of your
ear problems.  If you do, then putting tubes in your ears won't fix it,
only control of your sinusitis will.

When children get lots of drainage through their tubes, they are
treated with topical and/or oral antibiotics. Of course your middle
ear won't show water in the ear on a hearing test--it's been
artificially ventilated, so your tympanogram shows no middle ear
effusion--it drains down your face all night.
What you have is otorrhea--and Steven is right, it's an infection.
I'd get him to treat it and/or get another opinion--all the hearing
test verified is that the tube is not blocked and your middle ear is
ventilated. It doesn't address the drainage.
 Good luck.
Judy
