I don't see my post. Can anything be added to the saline that leaves
the inside of nostrils more moisturized? I thought i read some where
some people put a drop or two of glycerin in the neti pot. I didn't
use the neti at work yesterday but when i got home. .the inside of my
nose seemed dry..
Ive been back to work 2 days and can't believe the dryness. I always
knew that it was dry, but i was off sick almost a week with a extra
humidifier running all the time. I didn't have a bloody nose while
home, the first full day at work it was dry enough to cause the bloody
nose/snot. I use saline a few times a day too. I always blamed it on
the nasonex.
any opinions on the neti-wash that came with the kit? it has some
zinc, echinacea, golden seal etc (no alcohol)
"Sinus relief with Zinc and Herbal extracts. . Shown in studies to
reduce the duration and symptoms of the common cold, zinc acetate
slows the growth of rhinoviruses that cause colds."
Thanks

Zinc is used in the laboratory - topically in the nose to produce anosmia in
test animals. Look up Zinc-Anosmia.

Do NOT put zinc in your nose.
Topical nasal zinc can cause a side effect of anosmia (loss of sense of
smell), which can be long-lasting or even permanent.
Zicam, which makes an OTC zinc preparation to treat common cold, has
been hit with class-action lawsuits over this.

Hi Dr. --
There is a problem with Alkalol. It contains Eucalyptol. And if you
have an allergy component to your sinusitis (I've got spring, summer,
and fall pollen allergies) that can make matters worse. I tried it
once, and since then, never again.
...best, Capt N.

Use some other irrigation solution that is zinc-free.
To moisturize your nostrils, you could try Ocean Gel, available OTC.
I'll bet K-Y Jelly would work too. Both are water based.
