The raw feeling is likely coming from thick, infected post nasal drip
that is stuck in your throat. At least, that's what it usually means
for me.
To break up that phlegm in your throat, here are some things I have
found helpful:
1. Hot drinks (no caffeine)
2. Drink plenty of fluids to stay well hydrated
3. Inhale steam through the mouth
4. Throat irrigator (e.g. Grossan)
5. Plain guaifenisin syrup (e.g. Robitussin)
6. N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) supplement; 1200 mg (2 capsules) every hour
for 3 hours in the morning, each with a big glass of water
7. Avoid exposure to cold dry air
NAC has some mucolytic effect--it can actually dissolve phlegm.
Available at many health food stores.
Once you can cough up that phlegm or clear your throat to be rid of it,
your throat will feel much better.
Hope this helps.
