no more polyps - for me at least

Having fought sinus/asthma problems for about 12 years, I'd like to share
how my doc has prevented my polyps for about a year.
Things got worse & worse until until it plateaued for the last 4 or 5
years, I was getting polyps every 5 weeks - 2 weeks on prednisone & three
weeks off.  The polyps would show up in 3 weeks & back on the pred.  Yuck.
Additionally, my lungs would get clogged with plugs of crap & I'd also need
the pred. to open them up.
My doc @ National Jewish Hospital (best respiratory hospital in the U.S.)
tried lots of medications, but no improvement.
Then he prescribed "Pulmicort respules" to add to my morning & evening
saline irrigation (NeilMed bottle is great). Bingo, no more polyps,
immediately!  Then he added Qvar to my Advair & my lungs have stayed clear.

I hope this helps.

Pulmicort respules are a very effective and powerful (expensive) way to
shrink polyps but luckily my Flunisolide steroid spray works well for me.

Although my polyps don't shrink to nothing they do diminish greatly,
especially the very large one on the right side.

At It's worst it was almost protruding out of my nostril, stunning, to say
the least.

Happy breathing;

So you've been using the respules ever since he prescribed them or did
you use them for while then stop?

I've used them twice a day since they were prescribed.

So...

1. How long have you used it

2. How long do you (or your doctor) intend to continue it?

Many patients are also getting good results with Singular re preventing
polyps.

I started using Pulmicort respules about a year ago also.  I saw an entry
about it on this web site and took it to my allergist.  I am quite certain
it has kept me out of surgery.  It will not get rid of the problem but it
makes it manageable without surgery.  I initially used it every day for some
time, perhaps a few weeks.  Now I use it two or three times a week.  I add
the 2ml of Pulmicort to 8ml of saline solution.  I suck about 5ml into a
rubber suction type bulb (like you would use on a baby's nose) and put it in
the left side while I am laying on my back (I watch TV or it would get too
boring).  Then I do the same on the right side.  I leave it in about 7
minutes on each side with my head tilted toward that side.  Then I go to the
sink and let it drain out, blow some of it out.  I try to keep some in there
for a while to let it keep working.  It has made a huge difference in how I
feel.  I hope that others with this problem can benefit from this treatment.

All the best, Bob

Good suggestion.
I sometimes use a silicone bulb syringe (never rubber).

Re: delivery systems--NeilMed makes a very small medicine delivery
squeeze bottle--they sent me samples, and I think you can order them
on line. I know my sister used her neti pot to delivery amphotericiin
washes. Personally, I'm not fond of bulb syringes, as they're very
hard to clean thoroughly, and pseudomonas loves wet, dark spaces. But,
if you rinse it with vinegar, or a weak beach solution, and hang it up
to dry--or it has a top that opens, it should be easier to clean.
Good to know about the pulmicort respules.
