Newbie here.
It's been a bad year for sinuses in NE Florida with jasmine allergy
(common landscaping plant), forest fires, nasty flu strains, and then
red tide that is just ending now.
I had a cold about 4-6 weeks ago that just never fully cleared, so I've
been using the Grossman device to flush my sinuses 2x a day. Now on day
3, I'm doing much better but still have a left cavity that feels ready
to burst. I suspect that it's a staph infection, but I'd prefer not to
use antibiotics if I can help it.
Just curious if there are others that scuba dive. I've been having
sinus bleeding while diving from day 1 and sometimes it can be pretty
bad. However, it quickly clears when I'm on deck. I've learned to
ascend much slower which is a good idea anyway and clear my mask while
still in the water.
Any other ideas/hints? I saw the FAQ on the Dr. Grossman site about
diving. He didn't seem to think that bleeding after diving was a big deal.
I think I just need to be patient and get the inflammation down.

I did ... rather a lot. When my sinusitis became pretty much
uncontrollable (nearly 10 years ago now), I stopped, cold turkey.
Do you know about this?

Sudafed? Afrin, or comparable nasal decongestant??
I miss diving, but it seemed pretty reasonable that it was making me
WORSE .... and that just wasn't very cool.

I think that is more of a negative pressure. I don't having any problem
descending and I often swim for the bottom rather then sink slowly.
I do tend to bleed ascending. I assumed it was from closed sinuses
being forcefully opened to equalize pressure.

That is correct - divers do get nose bleed and usually it is not
significant, however if it is then use of a moisturizing gel at night will
probably prevent them.
Under no circumstances should you swim or dive in red tide. There have been
some terrible allergic sensitivities from red tide exposure that has
resisted therapy.

Amen there. I live close to the beach, so 10 minutes outside would
result in a sore throat and itching eyes. I stayed indoors as much as I
could.
I like your device and enjoyed reading your website. It's great that
you frequent the newsgroup.
What sort of moisturizer do you recommend?

I dive (have just under 100 dives). When I surface, I almost always
have a lot of phlegm and sometimes a little blood that I have to expel.
Ugh. I absolutely love to dive but I have to work hard at it
because of my sinus problems. I always take a 12 hour sudafed before
going and sometimes use afrin - I wish I didn't have to!

Thank you, Erik. That's good information. The only thing I haven't
tried are the proteolytic enzyme tablets. Have you tried these before?
That's interesting that you have no problems clearing your ears when you
descend. Consider yourself lucky in that regard. Most people I know
who dive and have sinus problems, also have issues clearing their ears.
I've had to call a handful of dives because my sinuses just wouldn't
play nice.
Good luck to you. I hope you're able to figure out how to stop the
nosebleeds.

No, but I did order some today as well as sinus gel. I'll give it a try
next time I dive.
I think my sinuses are finally clear. Even though I just finished
another round of fever, I think my sinuses are the most clear now then
in the last year. Feels great.

I rarely have any discomfort, but then I drove mountain passes for 10
years and fly often. Unless I have a cold, I usually don't even notice
my ears adjusting.
The bleeding has been odd, but painless. I can guess that this has just
been a bad year for sinuses and both dry tank air and salt water is
tough on membranes. I've been known to get nose bleeds in dry climates
and cold/dry air masses, so it could be as simple as that.
I think I may have an excuse to invest in a rebreather. ;-)

Please let us know if they work well for you. Of course, if everything
is feeling good, you might not even need them. Where did you find them?

Right from the source:

I'll let you know. I don't currently have any trips planned as I was
waiting for my sinuses to clear up again. I'll give it a week.
