Lately I have been getting some black specks coming out of my nose
when irrigating my sinuses.  What could this be?  Something in my
sinuses or something in the Water Pik?

thanks

I suppose it could be dried blood, or soil, if you've gardened recently,
as was the case with me a few weeks ago.  Or it could be the rubber
grommet breaking up in your waterpik, according to another poster to
this group, so check that out.

If he uses tap water, the water might be slightly contaminated with
sediment if they've been doing maintenance or repairs on the water mains
lately.  I've had that problem.

Very good point, water often has sediment in it. We had a company come
and use an air missile to replace our underground galvanized water
service pipe with copper when we bought This Old House.

Run you water pik into a glass and see if it has specks in it.

I think it must be rubber.  I ran it into a glass and there was some
black specks in it too.

thanks

The water pik has rubber and the salt reacts with it. With the high
incidence of latex sensitivity it is best to use a pulsatile irrigator  that
doesn't contain any rubber or latex.

Or a NeilMed bottle.  Cheap, easy to clean, and no parts to break.

The grommet in your Waterpik is getting ready to disintegrate. These black
specks are your warning sign. When the grommet breaks up all kinds of stuff
will be shot up your nose so now is the time to send that Waterpik to the
graveyard.      AW

Waterpik has a very good 2 year warranty. They will usually send you a new
one without you having to send in the old one. Just give them the serial
number on the phone.

I've used Waterpiks for irrigation for decades and never had that problem
with the rubber though. I've had other problems, such as the unit stop
working, the handle going bad, etc. When that's happened, the company has
always been very good about replacing it.
