Good News on Cethromycin

Some good news about cethromycin, the new ketolide antibiotic undergoing
clinical trials:

Unlike the first ketolide, Ketek, cethromycin appears to be well
tolerated by patients suffering from hepatic impairment; no dose
adjustment is needed.

And cethromycin appears to be as effective as Ketek against the same
strains of bacteria.

Ketek was a bitter disappointment owing to its sometimes irreversible
and fatal side effects.
Hopefully cethromycin will check out!

No, it's based on macrolides: erythromycin, biaxin, azithromycin. No
penicillin.

No, the ketolide class of antibiotic is totally different.

And there's nothing *inherently* risky with ketolides; they're similar
to macrolides.  It's just that the clinical trials for Ketek were
improperly performed, that's all:
