hello:

it has been a while since i posted or even checked the posts on this site.
i had pretty much resigned myself to my condition.  i still irrigate 1-3
times daily but have pretty much given up on surgery.  i do still search
this site and the web occasionally.

below are some statements taken from my last post second surgery CT scan.
after this i visited one more surgeon who suggested i see someone at UofP,
where i already had gone, and been told there is no surgical solution.
someday i may revisit the whole allergy thing.

my question to the group is is it ok that i have decided to live with my
condition OR do my statments from my MRI indicate that i could be in
danger of having this crap spread to my bones, my lungs or my brain?

thanks very much for reading and any comments appreciated.  CT scan
statements follow:

On the current examination, there is near complete opacification of the
left maxillary sinus, with soft tissue extending into the surgically
created ostium, contiguous with soft tissue density within the left
ethmoid sinuses.

There is lobular mucosal thickening involving the right maxillary sinus,
versus mucous retention cyst formation or polyp.  The  surgically created
ostium is patent.

Moderate mucosal thickening is demonstrated involving the floor and
posterior aspect of the left frontal sinus.  There is mild mucosal
thickening involving the floor of the right frontal sinus.

Mild mucousal thickening and opacification of the right ethmoid sinus.

Impression: Chronic sinusitis.  Near complete opacification of the left
maxillary sinus.  Previous functional endoscopic surgery with postsurgical
alteration, as described.  No air-fluid level identified.

If you have a low-level chronic infection, it can spread into the skull
(osteomyelitis) and even into the brain (abscess).  But those are
uncommon complications.

That's why you have to keep an eye on it.  I get a new CT scan every two
years.

I have often wondered if one of the reasons I cannot get rid of my
chronic sinusitis entirely is because it has started to intrude into my
skull, at least a little.  It would take a bone scan to find out.  My
ENT doesn't think it's necessary.

Bone scans of the skull are usually done to assess the progress of
metastatic cancer, so if I show up at the radiology lab complaining of
sinusitis but no overt symptoms of osteomyelitis such as unexplained
fever, they're not going to be too impressed.  :-)

This a very abnormal CT: especially the soft tissue densities--I'd get
another opinion.

Thanks.  i have had 5 opinions including the U of Penn, which has been
highly recommended in this group.  when i went to Penn, i went with an
older - not as bad sounding CT scan, but the guy did stick a scope in my
nostril and told me that he did not feel there was anything that could be
done surgically.

maybe i will get another CT scan and take it back there but i kinda just
think i have to live with this.  i've had 2 surgeries and both probably
worsened rather than helped with my problem.
