A Texan w/Major Sinus Problem

HI-Im New to this Group but I Got One Horrible Problem
The sinusitis or whatever it is that i have is finally getting the
better of me- i seem to be getting weaker as this goes on. i started
having post nasal drip, fatigue back in march. i had a ct done in may
and my ent told me i had pockets of infection and rxed some antib.
problemis i have crohns and gp and taking all these antib pills will
rip me up bad. so i just used salinerinses from nellymed and they
seemed to help. my allergist thinks it may be my crohns causing the
sinus issues-however my cell counts are normal. the nasal sprays i
have used for yrs to control meallergies stopped working many months
ago. i went to another ent-he said that i had no sinus problem judging
by the same ct used by the rpevious ent! i went to yet
another ent for another opinion as i was getting worse-he said i
needed all kinds of surgery-i already had a septoplasty and
turbininectomy back in 2000. my gi dr-who is concerned aboutthis-
sent me to a infectious disease guy. he thinks there is infection-
and sent me to an ent who he trusts. this ent thought it wasnt
infection but my sinuses in overdrive from the meds i take-like
600mg per day on zantc, klonopin at nightand occasionally scopalamine
patch. the meds are drying-causing my sinuses to overproduce gunk.
the last visit he thought i may have staff infection due to the
inflammation in one nostril . however, no culture was performed. so
went back to the infectious disease dr to get help last week-he
contacted this ent and i went in last week for a deep sinus culture
where they numbed my nose and suctioned up some gunk, then ran a long
qtip up the nose and into the back duct there where the stuff
drains. at this point ihopesomething is found in the culture! this
past week i ve been very sick with this thing-so lightheaded and
weak. Im on remacaide for crohns-butit is not helping yet as ive
taken 2 infusions so far. i so tired from this-and its further
impacting my already fragile state. any ideas here? im getting
scared...

Start a regimen of probiotics. I use Culturelle and Healthy Trinity. Take one capsule of
each first thing every morning and last thing every night. I take the capsules with Kefir,
a cultured milk product made by Lifeway. I use the Organic, Plain, Lowfat. And I drink
Kefir several times during the day. Probiotics are very sensitive to heat and should be
refrigerated until used.

Also, must follow the SCD diet as in the "Breaking The Vicious Cycle" written by Elaine
Gottschall.

It works. Many health benefits from this regimen.

Do research on google.com

Good luck.

Some simple things that might be helpful over time would be drinking a lot
more water and also drinking hot herb or green tea several times daily. This
could help get some moisture back into your sinuses and possibly unharden
the gunk that is forming your pockets of infection. Keep up with the saline
rinses and think about starting daily saline irrigation. Starting regular
probiotics is also a good idea. If you did not happen to already see it,
read the thread on probiotics from last week.
btw- Doesn't the Remicade put you at some risk of developing infections?
Remicade has worked wonders for a friend with Crohn's.  good luck  AW

Remicade does immunosuppress you: it can work wonders. I have a friend
is due to start it for psoriasis, but is concerned that he may have a
local cellulitis, and is clearing that up first.
The probiotic thread and the sinusitis FAQ are good places to start
for basic info.
I hope you get some relief.

Judy, not infrequently, P clears up with high doses of abx and anti
fungals.  My derm has had it happen.

Scary stuff, Remicade and Enbrel.

Psoriasis is caused by activated T-cell dysfunction and not an infection or
a fungi.

Yes, Remicade is scary stuff but so is living with Crohns.
The man I know who does Remicade therapy is now able to work full time at a
very demanding job which certainly beats spending your life in the bathroom.
