I can use Simply Saline as it does not have Benz. in it.
My nose bleeds from Benz.

It's an effective preservative, it's relatively cheap, and the
pharmaceutical companies are NOT motivated to abandon it as long as
it's still FDA approved.
Here's a reply I got from the FDA regarding BAK (and other
preservatives), particularly when used in eye drops:

Thank you for writing the Division of Drug Information, in the FDA's
Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.
OTC drug products have to follow the standards of a monograph.
Benzalkonium chloride is an acceptable preservative for OTC opthalmic
products. Please see the monograph on
http://www.fda.gov/cder/otcmonographs/Ophthalmic/opthalmic_19800506.pdf
Please see the following website for information on how to petition
the
FDA to change a regulation

I haven't started down the Petition path yet. I will. Others should,
too.
The number of studies concluding that BAK damages the sinuses is
overwhelming.

Several things happen: the doctor tells the mother to have the child use
saline spray. They buy the one with the BZK preservative and then the kid
won't use it because it burns. Then doctor tells to dilute it but it burns
worse - its too dilute. Now the kid refuses to use any other saline or
enhanced nasal spray without BZK.
Practically none of the pharmaceutical companies measure nasal cilia or
chest cilia function to their drugs - which is especially important in chest
medications. I have only been trying to get them to do this for 20 years.
What is esp frustrating is that it is such an easy thing to do objectively.

are nasal sprays including saline sprays all bzk free in europe? for
saline sprays i just make my own with those prepackaged salt and
baking soda mixtures which you just add distilled water to for
irrigating so thats not an issue. its a shame people could buy saline
nasal sprays with bzk and unknowingly make the problem worse.

No, instead of mixing your own so its fresh and CHEAP, you should drive to
the pharmacy in your SUV, pay 3 dollars plus tax and buy the one ounce
prepared saline with the BZK. That way doctors get more patients.
