Is it possible to be allergic to cats and not be aware of it? I have 3
cats residing with me and I don't notice anything unusual around them
but I sure have general congestion, sinusitis and postnasal drip 24/
seven. I do feel I am sensitive to mold.  Just curious if anyone was
ever surprised that they were allergic to cats and didn't think they
were.  Thanks.

In my experience, a cat allergy inevitably has led to incredibly itchy
eyes.  YMMV.

My cat allergy went away on its own, without treatment; my allergist
says that sometimes intensive exposure can desensitize.

Thanks. I don't have itchy eyes at all. I have had intensive exposure
to mold.  I wish I could be cured of it like you were to cats.  You
are very lucky to have the cat allergy resolve on its own.

I suffer from a few allergies. The majority make me feel like I've got a
full-blown cold: sneezing, runny nose and eyes etc.   ...However, you
are correct...   With cats (At least for me), the sure-fire way of
knowing for sure that they're responsible, is the incredible itchy
eyes..

My sister is so sensitive to cats, that even if one brushes by her legs,
she'll develop welts in that spot.  ...Jon

From EurekAlert;

Exposure to cats increases bronchial responsiveness in people without
specific cat allergy

"increased bronchial responsiveness" is exactly what happens to me
when i am exposed to cat allergens.  when i had allergy shots a decade
or so ago, they didn't even include it in my serum because of the
severity of the asthma like response.  no itchy eyes though.
