Hi, I seem to have a sinus problem, however, not really sure. I can breathe
fine. My nose is not plugged up at all. But I think I have some clogging
(like glue! as one person said) way deep.. maybe in my middle ear or
something. When I hold my nose shut, and blow, I can feel that there's
blockage and I can hear some popping. It seems to be worse on the left side,
where I hear a fairly constant ticking sound.
When I irrigate, using a plastic syringe and some warm salt water, the water
easily comes out the other nostral. One a couple of occasions, I have gotten
some blood. I have tried tilting my head back, sideways, and bending over
completely so that my head is upside down (after shooting water up there, I
bend over quickly).. in an attempt to get some of that warm water into the
clogged areas. So far nothing has worked.
Does anyone else have sinus blockage like this? where you can breathe thru
your nose fine? And would the waterpik possibly help in reaching this area?
I have had sinus problems before, but I usually get that drainage in my
throat, and when that happens, it is REALLY thick and gluey. If this is the
same stuff.. it's just sitting there... but this ticking sound is driving me
crazy!

Cameron:
Yes it is an infection.
Do a search in http://www.pubmed.gov on "biofilm sinusitis" and
"biofilm and adenoids". It is goo city.
Gentimycian washes, long term low dose macrolides, plus intraconazole
are effective in keeping it at bay.
Take a look at my post in the "sinusitis for 25 years thread".
Other than at the CDC UM, Stanford, U of Penn, and the NSF center for
Biofilm Research, most ENTs are not aware of this.
For further explanation click on my name and read some of my other
posts (and rants).

The easiest to understand is the University of Michigan Sinus Center
Site.
