Oxymetazoline hci  over the counter 12hr. spray is extremely powerful stuff
and causes rebound symptoms when used as directed.
But I found that after stopping use for a year , then I mixing 12 drops of
the spray into 1/2 oz. saline in clean sprayer I use two or three sprays at
night of this diluted formula and it is just as effective.  Keeps me clear
all night.  Trying not to use in the daytime , sometimes one spray usually
none.
The otc spray seems to be about 20 times more potent than it needs to be.
That's probably why I had such bad rebound symptoms from the spray last
year.  So far the very diluted formula has worked for 7 days without
remarkable rebound during the daytime.

I do something similar with the 4 hour Phenylephrine Hydrochloride (1%)
nasal spray.  I take a cleaned with bleach and washed nasal spray bottle and
then add 2 or 3 eye droppers of 1% Phenylephrine Hydrochloride, then add at
least a half ounce of the distilled water saline mix that I normally use for
irrigation in my Hydropulse. This is at least a 1-10 dilution.  Then, before
bed if I am congested and I really want to sleep I will give each nostril a
small squirt. Instead of taking one second to open my nose it takes between
five minutes and fifteen minutes but the results are always good and will
last all night for me. Best of all there is no rebound effect. I have
experimented to see how dilute a nasal spray solution will work in this
manner and in my experience very dilute solutions work fine - if you do not
expect instant results as far as opening your nose up.    AW
