I'm so glad I found this place where others can relate! I've had
sinus problems that seem like forever, but this year has been by far
the worst. In Nov I got a sinus infection so bad the headaches felt
like migranes, 7 days of ammox and within a month it was back again -
thats when I saw the ENT. he said I had a "ball of infection" that was
way back in the sinus cavity, and put me on 3 weeks of augmentin and
sinus spray and a CT Scan 6 wks later. The infection cleared up but
the CT scan showed all the "tissue" was very swollen. he said Surgery
was an option, it was up to me if I could live with the constant sinus
infections and sinus headaches then it was my choice. a few weeks
passed, yet another infection, and a round of Avelox.. I went back and
he said I think its time for surgery, so it was set for March 27th. 5
days before he put me on Augmentin b/c I had a cold and my husband had
the flu. Surgery day, things went well, he told my husband there was
alot of "guck" up there. by friday It was awful, I had a low grade
fever and I swore my sinuses were infected, but the office pretty much
blew me off.. Sunday I called the on call dr and he said, well I don't
have your chart, you'd be better off calling the office tomorrow. so I
showed up first thing at the office. Turns out I did have an
infection, he suctioned me and put me on Ceftin & Prednisone for 10
days.. The infection cleared up, but my emotions were awful, I think
it was the Prednisone. Just an utter feeling of hopelessness that
I'll never feel good again. Anyone else have a bad reaction to
Prednisone?
Here I am almost 3 weeks post surgery and I have a cold and I'm so
afraid of getting another infection.. I'm irrigating, I actually
ordered the Grossan Hydro yesterday and am looking forward to getting
it!! I'm still having some blood tinged mucus and a little yellow and
green coming out.. Does yellow & green definately mean infection?
I feel like this sinus surgery has taken over my life!! I just want
to emotionally feel good again!! I definately feel better since
coming off the prenisone, but I just don't feel like myself yet!
Any Advice???

I am an engineer, not a doctor, so you are not getting an medical
opinion.
but most chronic sinusitis infections are biofilm infections.
You need to use your search engine and do a bit of research on biofilm
sinusitis
because most ENTs think a biofilm is something that will be shown on
the Channel 132.
But there are a few who have been paying attention to what they see
and doing the work.

Penicillians like Augmentin are not effective against bacteria that
are not rapidly dividing, and in biofilms
some of the bacteria of each species seldom divide.
Macrolides such as Biaxan and Zithromax are effective. Even at low
doses these antibotics interfere with bacterial attachment to cells.
I too had a bad reaction to prednisone, but that was because I had an
infection rather than an allergy, and the prednisone
knocked out part of my immune system and allowed it to spread.
And yes, yellow and green probably mean that you have an infection.
Pseudomonas produces a couple of florescent pigments that give it that
characteristic
green color and Staph Aureus produces the yellow pus.
Staph is a commonly cultured organism in people who have chronic
sinusitis, and false negative results from the culture are also
common.

I actually had a "positive" reaction to prednisone at first...I felt
like Superwoman the first few days. Then came the stiff neck and
blurry vision. I was on it for 2 weeks and after I went off I was
thrown into a deep depression for several weeks. It definitely effects
emotions! Hope you'll feel back to your normal self soon...

Thank you so much for the info!!
Holli - Sorry about the reaction to the prednisone, thank you for
sharing, everyone had something different to say about it, My Mother
in law was on it years ago, and she said she felt great, she always
felt like she was on the move!!
