For the last year I've been battling what I believe (as opposed to a
few ENT's I've seen) is chronic sinusitis. All my life I've had to
deal with allergies, most notably hay fever, and that time of year has
now come again. My usual antihistamine is Allegra-D, but shortly after
taking it my symptoms that I attribute to the sinusitis suddenly got
worse.
So, I did a little research, found out that such allergy meds can
actually worsen sinus infections, and now I'm wondering if there is
any drug that I can take to alleviate my allergies without adverse
affects...?
Thanks for any feedback!

If you start NasoCrom before the allergy season that helps. You need to
follow www.pollen.com to see what you are allergic to. Irrespective of
allergen, unless the bedroom is dust proofed you will have symptoms.
Sometimes despite allergy Rx you reach a point where nothing works and then
bed rest is needed.

I cannot take a decongestants anymore by pill anymore as I have
palpitations.
So my MD gives me a nasal spray and antiobiotic--- but reminds me not
to take my allergy meds until after the infection is gone.

What does he tell you not to take? When I've been like that, I've
been told to stop Nasonex, but I still take Astelin (a rx nasal spray
for congestion). Works well for me.
I still take a horse size pseudoephedrine pill many days, although I
don't recommend it, especially if you have palpitations. One nice
benefit, though. That and 3-4 cups of coffee get me going in the
morning. ;-)

The Meds that she has given me will loosen the infection and my allergy
(Claritin) pill does not.
The Claritin does not stop me from getting a sinus infection.

Try topical nasal steroid sprays. Examples include Flonase and Nasonex.
They don't cause drying of the mucous membranes or thickening of the
mucus, as antihistamines do.
