Hi, just before i had septoplasty i noticed that i seemed to be
clearing my throat a lot. I thought it would go away after the surgery
if it was related but it has gotten a lot worse and its at the stage
where i could try and clear my throat all day and it never completely
clears. i now have to try and clear my throat everytime i answer the
phone at work because my voice croaks a bit and apart from driving me
nuts, its quite embarrasing. Anyone else have this problem or think it
may be related to something else? It's a bit of a hassle to see my ENT
so i would rather not have to if i can help it.
Thanks

If I have an attack of reflux from Gerds, acid reflux.  I find myself
clearing my throat, and my voice sounds like I have a cold too.
This happens especially in the mornings.

I start drinking tea and clear liquids, then I start to sneeze.  It
starts to drain as I use a lot of kleenex for a couple of hours.

I have post nasal drip, allergies and sinusitis + Gerds.
My MD told me to use saline rinses  and a allergy med so I do not get an
infection.

Could be GERD.

Could be a hiatal hernia.

Could be post-nasal drip.

Could be allergies.

Could be lots of things.

I probably WOULD see the ENT.

Good luck!

Clearing throat and constant mucus in throat is usually slow nasal cilia.
When cilia are slow, mucus thickens and may be infected. Huge amounnts of
tea/lemon help as does pulsatile irrigation.

Anyone else have this problem?

You must be going crazy if this is still going on after surgery.  You
have my utmost sympathy.

I got sick November 4.  I have been sick ever since.  It began, as far
as I know, with a nasty virus I caught, and was exacerbated by house
cleaning I did.  I had a bona fide secondary infection that we treated,
as usual, with antibiotics.  The whole syndrome, which I still have,
was marked by the sinuses constantly dripping back and choking me off,
and then flaring up an asthmatic condition.

I have had nasty allergic reactions to two antibiotics (Ketek and
Avalox), am finally off Prednisone and Pulmocort, and finally off my
Xopenex treatments - Woo Hoo!.

Occasionally I sleep, when my sinuses aren't choking me.

I am currently maintaining on Duratuss, Singulair, and Nasalcrom.
Today, I just broke through and felt like I was having a systemic to
something, maybe a food.  I may break down and try antihistimine, but
I'm worried about what it could do to my chest.

I am constantly "noisy" and in that "nasty noisy" mode because not only
do I have to keep clearing out the drip, but I'm frustrated as I keep
clearing it out.

Duratuss and Singulair in the past have been very nice little meds for
me.  If you've never tried them, you could always ask your doc if
they're right for you.  I hate cortisone.

I really hope you feel better.  I've now been sick through my birthday,
Thanksgiving, and now Christmas.

But, Merry Christmas anyways.

Well here's a surprise.  I took a Claritin since I was out of ideas.  I
was having bronchial spasms and felt like my chest was filling up, or
something, maybe just lots of edema everywhere.  It's been close to two
hours since Claritin and the asthma attack was broken up.  I'm still
drippy, but I'm really better.

I've had two docs recommend antihistimine lately and I've been
terrified because of the asthma, and how my bodies been hyper reacting
to everything.

I have found the nasal irrigation machine where I live (expensive, but
might be worth it).

For some reason my bodies super allergic right now, so I really don't
want anymore medicines to treat my sinuses.

Yes, my PND got much worse after surgery, and continues to get worse.

Why isn't that listed as a side effect to consider if one is considering
sinus or septal surgery?

I wonder if having sinus surgery damages the hair like cilia that line
the nasal/sinus passages? I had "laser" and traditional sinus surgery.
There has been no significant
improvement.  The sinus irrigations and tons of hot tea help just a
little.I wish there was
a real cure.
