I find chocolate very irritating to my sinuses.  I can eat other sweets
with no problem.  I wonder whats
in the chocolate that makes my sinuses so much worse? It also seems to
add to dehydration. :(
I don't eat sweets often but with Christmas coming I am offered a lot
of goodies. I'll have to decline.

Chocolate has caffeine in it like coffee.

The stimulant effects of chocolate are ascribed to theobromine, an
alkaloid similar instructure to caffeine, but with slightly different
physiological effects.

The amount of caffeine in chocolate is negligible.

You may be slightly allergic to it.
Five years ago, I was tested by an allergist and found out that I am
slightly allergic to chocolate.  (In fact, chocolate and peanuts are the
only two things I'm allergic to.)

I haven't eaten anything with chocolate in it ever since.

Thanks everyone for the reply.  Is caffeine irritating to the sinuses?
I drink a lot of coffee.
However, studies show hot tea is good for moving cilia and if one is
drinking black tea it
has plenty of caffeine.  Any comments on this?

Caffeine is a diuretic, and unless you drink a lot of additional water,
it's easy to become dehydrated on coffee.  The usual test is to check
the color of your urine before you've consumed anything that might color
it (like vitamin B pills).  If your urine is deep yellow or even darker
(orange), then you're not drinking enough water.  Urine should be the
color of very weak lemonade.

Dark yellow urine can also mean you've taken b vitamins that day.

I buy decafe tea and the regular tea too.

I have the decafe tea in the afternoon as I like a cup of tea around 4
pm and I can sleep at night.
