Well, after Sunday I will be done with a 21-day course of antibiotics
(Biaxin XL) for a nasty sinus infection. It seems to have done the job, but
who knows. I am worried that 2-3 days later it will be right back. I guess
we shall see.

My question:  If it comes back, should I immediately try another 10-14 day
run of biaxin xl or try and wait it out again or try a different drug
(amoxicillan only worked during the 3rd-5th days of a 10-day course).

My gut would be to get a CT Scan and go from there.

But, any thoughts/suggestions on what to do if it comes back?

You have good reason to be worried.  Mayo clinic suggests a minimum of
one month, on up to three months.  OTOH, you haven't had these
infections long term, and maybe you'll get lucky.

If your symptoms come back and if you think you can stand it, you could
try using the Biaxin again.  If you tolerate penicillins better,
Augmentin XR, but not regular Augmentin, is a good choice.  Try for
longer treatment, if you have to retreat.

Susan:

I really had problems with Augmentin (terrible Diarrhea and had to quit
taking it) about 5 years ago.

Is Augmentin XR any different??

(Biaxin also caused gut problems, but yogurt has helped)

Yes, it's a higher dose and slower release.

I don't know if that would help you or hurt you, though.

If you take Augmentin you must take a full 8 ounce glass of water before and
an full 8 ounce glass of water after each pill.
