Sleep (lack of) and sinus symptoms

Has anyone else noticed a very strong correlation between lack of sleep and
an increase in sinus problems??

Almost every  sinus infection I've gotten seems to happen the day after I
only got 1-5 hours of sleep. And when I have a sinus infection it seems
better after a real good night's sleep and worse after a poor night's sleep

Absolutely ... without sleep your bodily resistance to disease decreases.
Lack of proper sleep can also can many illnesses including high blood
pressure, heart attack, mental illness, car crashes, fights and arguments,
and about a few thousand or so other nasty things.

I know that this is going to sound crazy, but I actually feel better
with less sleep.  I was sleeping 8-9 hours a night, having to take a
nap in the afternoons and still exhausted.  Now, I can't sleep over 2-3
hours at a time, although it has improved recently since my surgery and
I have been under less stress. So sometimes I'm up most of the night
and sleep a little  throughout the day.  Then I'll crash for a few days
and sleep for hours at a time, but feel worse.   Mine seems to
correlate with being able to rinse out the mucus.  If I can't get it
rinsed out regularly it gets stuck more and harder to get out.

Has anyone else had a similar experience to this?

As a general rule, sleep has restorative properties and I'm sure that
it is best to get a good night's sleep whatever the health condition
is.

A deep, sound sleep is more likely to be associated with a sinus headache
for me later the next day. It must have something to do with pooling of
secretions in whatever position I end up in when sleeping soundly.

same here.  i do try to give myself one day a week where i can have a long
sleep (>6 hrs) but almost always wake up with sinus pressure and pain.

I rarely sleep more than 1 hour straight (wake up with breathing, sinus
problems).  Usually spend 10 hours (6 at night, 4 in afternoon) just
lying in bed "resting" without falling asleep.  It's not enjoyable
rest, but body needs it.

If I don't get the 10 hours, my sinuses go crazy (more than normal) and
I walk around like a dead man with swollen sinuses and fainting
feelings the whole day.

And this swolleness makes it harder for me to sleep the next night,
which makes sinuses more crazy, etc. etc.  A vicious cycle like this
happens and it's hard to get out of it (I'm in on right now, as I
haven't slept a single hour last 2 weeks, just a lot of "horribly
unenjoyable resting").

So in conclusion, yes the correlation can be VERY STRONG.

I find this sleep thread interesting as I find if I sleep deeply and
long (more than 6 hours) I generally feel worse in the morning than I
would if I have had a restless or short sleep. Its as though mucas
pools in my sinuses or somehow my tubes get irritated by a deep long
sleep.

(Of course too many restless sleeps makes me worse in the long run)

Has anyone with this symptom found a solution to minimise sinus
irritation during sleep?
Perhaps waking myself up every couple of hours might make a difference?

I have been trying for my whole adult life to get up early.  Just this
last week I tried again.  Tried for 9:00 am.  Felt like sh.t the whole
day. Kept at it the next few days always trying.  In bed by 10:00-11:00
pm up around 9-10.  But it is not enough sleep.  I need about 12 hours
or I feel like sh.t all day long. Finally had to sleep the whole day
until 5:00pm to recover.   I am pretty sure I have some kind of sinus
problem. My upper rear teeth throb off and on constantly for the last
few years.  I get sick real easy.  Tons of preasure on my forehead,
Ashma, Allergies, Feel like crap all of the time.  I have been doing
the nasil rinse along with other things and it helps.  But no matter
what I need tons of sleep.  Sometimes I feel worse after too much sleep
but I always feel like sh.t without 12 hours.  How is someone supposed
to exsist when 2/3 of their life is in bed??

This condition is not due to sinus or allergy.
Best to get a diagnosis. First check with your family doctor and if they
feel it best they can refer you to a doctor who is  a sleep specialist.
There is an association of doctors who specialze in that field and you can
look them up on the net.
